Hmm! Not the first to say that;-)Great evening, glad to have met a childhood hero of mine,Peter Barnes.
Very well presented show by Gary James who looks a bit like Jack Dee.
Sorry Gary ;-)
Thanks. Say Hi from me too. When Will and I prepared the show for the 1st time in 2013 we didn't spot the humour of that scene but when it was shown on the big screen with an audience it stood out so clear. A reason why I love showing these films in a cinema environment. It wouldn't be the same at home. What a brilliant night Gary. Your opening line of if this was Old Trafford we'd be saying there was 70,000 in attendance set the tone for a laughter-filled evening. Loved every minute of it.
You forget how bad Swales actually was. He reminds me of a cross between David Brent from the office and Alan Partridge. The scene of him sat in the Chairman's office beneath a picture of HIMSELF on the wall was pure gold!
Thanks for a brilliant night and for all the work you have done mate.
PS. My Mrs remembers you from your days working for the Halifax in Hyde. She told me to say 'hello' from Jo Gregson.
Gary - I would have loved to have seen this but I couldn't make it last night. Are there going to be other screenings? Cheers
This is the essence of it all I guess - the audience becomes part of the show. At home, on a small screen, comfy environment it wouldn't come across in the right way. It has to be on a big screen with a decent audience. The 430 plus there last night made the evening and it was great for Will and I to experience the reaction. When we selected the films we had no idea if other fans would feel the same about the clips but last night proved they enjoyed it much more than we anticipated. I loved the Oohs and Aahs as Trautmann made his saves; the cheering when Johnstone scored or the League Cup was lifted; the reaction to a 'giddy' Franny Lee; the laughter at some of Swales' utterances; the reaction to the Kippax scenes and so on.Brilliant clips last night. I didn't really know what to expect before I arrived but I was very pleased after. The narration with the films was exactly what I'd hoped for. Great to see so many people attending to,brought an atmosphere of family inside the theatre. All Cheering and laughing and clapping. Made me feel even more part of the City family. Very moving. I brought missus with me. She was a bit MEH! About the idea. She was grinning from ear to ear watching the clips. She Especially enjoyed Swales's interviews. She didn't know who he was at all before the show. She certainly does now. I grew up supporting city at the time of the self proclaimed 'top man at the club' to see and hear his attitude and ego was very entertaining. Poor Tony book. Really enjoyed the evening. Thankyou.
Ha. I can imagine their faces watching a huge paper mashay headed fella singing and clowing around singing city songs! It must have been surreal. Francis lee's giddy childish laughter was amusing and watching the studio recording of the players singing boys in blue with franny lees subtle dance moves was brilliant. As I said, great evening and much appreciated. £7 was a bargain. All the best for future works Gary. This is the essence of it all I guess - the audience becomes part of the show. Thanks to the audience for making it such a special evening. Thanks also to Ferran, Brian and co for their interest and enthusiasm for City's history (though I do wonder how other City staff explained who/what Frank Sidebottom was to the CEO). Cheers
He said he didn't really like football i think.
