Gary Neville

Think GNev missed the point a little and that's what is annoying people. The guy that attacked the Synagogue probably hasn't done so because he's influenced by Tommy Robinson or middle aged white people. Maybe he was a nutter or maybe he was radicalized online but i would eat my own man City bucket hat if it's because a union jack got put up and a roundabout got painted. More than one thing can be true at a time

Ironic that the words of this middle aged white man has caused such division.

Heaven only knows how persecuted middle aged white men would feel if they got the same amount of blame that each Muslim gets each day.

The snowflakery would be off the scale. Every town would be on fire.

Seemed like Neville was blaming middle aged white men for the Synagogue attack though. He's unhelpfully conflating two distinct issues

I don’t think he was. He was saying that the flags were part of an ongoing campaign to keep us divided.
He started his video referencing the Synagogue attack. Admittedly I've not seen the video in full and may have been the victim of clever editing but summary here is what some people are hearing him say

"The Synagogue attack has dominated the news and I got to thinking. The real problem is the union jack and middle aged white guys".

He might be right about an ongoing campaign to divide us but the motivation of the Synagogue attacker is not the same that's being stoked by Robinson etc.

There can be more than two bad actors involved in a society or community but saying it's all the same is ironically causing the division he's concerned about.

I mean your going to slam me here, maybe even chuck me off the forum, but I don’t mind Gary Neville as a pundit.

Talks more sense than Carragher, Shearer, Micah, Redknapp, Keane to name but a few of the utter shite on the football telly.

At least he knows what it takes to win multiple titles, CL … unlike all others.
They're all shit. Sky knew they had something different with Neville about 12 years ago - he had just finished playing, knew what it was like to play week in, week out in the premier league and had been a part of some hugely successful sides, so was, as others have mentioned a beath of fresh air at the time.

The problems started when they added Carragher (who is utterly fucking garbage) into the mix, it devolved from Neville trying to add an analytical/tactical view point into Rags vs Dippers. Keane's a prick, he's on sky because his soundbites and faux-miserable old man routine make him go viral. Redknapp looks like a dinosaur compared to the rest of them. Don't get me started on Richards.

There is no good pundit on mainstream television. Sky/BBC/TNT whoever can't run a pre-show or analysis without including and ex- Rag, Dipper or Tarquin - why do City's European games need coverage from Ferdinand, who hates us or Savage who never came close to playing in the champions league?

Football has become something Sky and co can market to 13 year olds with 10 second Tik tok attention spans, the era of analysis is over, they would much rather hear Micah make a fool of himself or Neville and Carragher argue.

I can see why people think that, but I honestly think he was trying to dial back the rhetoric more than blaming people.

"The messaging is getting dangerous"

"All these idiots out there spreading hate speech in any form, abuse in any form, we must stop promoting them"

"We must stop elevating our voices towards them"

"It needs to stop now"

"And get back to a country of love, peace and harmony"

Have you watched the video?
He didn't blame MAWM for the attack.
He's conflating two different issues and obscuring one of them. He talks about the Jewish community being defiant and then gets to thinking the problem is society is being divided by mainly middle aged white guys. This is missing the point about the Synagogue attack

Neville is a fucking moron but what is so pleasing about that video is that he's completely outdone Jordan for intelligence.

He accuses middle aged white men of getting angry and divisive and how does Jordan react? With anger of course!

And what does Jordan say about Neville? That he's a rich middle aged white man who can't comment on real world matters. And what is Simon Jordan? An angry, rich middle aged white man who can't comment on real world matters.

We're talking two thick cunts either side of the political spectrum having a petty argument which might not be for GNIAC to talk about, but certainly isn't for Talkshite and SJIAC to then review.

Noble words from the guy who riled up the rag mob to go and break into the swamp!

Ann other thing that needs to stop is this.

Cherry picking a phrase from years back in an attempt to deflect away from the topic at hand.

Don’t make me go through your post history! ;-)

His comment about the flags seems perfectly fair to me. It is all about intention, and we know why, at this present time, so many are springing up. It is pretty clear that we have a number of politicians that are succeeding in dividing society. It is a well-worn path that most of us have witnessed through the decades, and it is widely supported by the media. It seems a bit weird to me that it has received more attention than the admission by Nathan Gill, Reform's leader in Wales and a close associate of Nigel Farage, of taking Russian bribes, but this is the age we live in. It is the same as Gary Lineker being demonised in the press for using his platform to raise political issues. If Gary Lineker had said that angry, white middle-aged males had legitimate concerns and Israel had the right to defend itself, he would never have received the backlash he did. He would have shed his integrity at the altar of keeping his job, but keep it he would have.

Having watched his little rant he's bang on about all you racists hiding behind your 'raising the colours' good on him for calling it out. You want to make people who aren't white and British uncomfortable and that's the root of it all.

Patriots do me a fucking favour the fat pikey **** who put them up around Cheadle never paid a penny tax in his fucking life.
Don't confuse patriotism with nationalism as per george Orwells definitions

Not really. Poor timing aside, he was passing a comment on the flags as a response, and the ongoing context. People claiming otherwise are piggybacking the tragic attack for their own outrage preaching and further division sowing.

You admitted you'd not seen the video in full.
He said MAWM were part of the problem, not all. He's got a point.

It's not just poor timing. He references the attack and the defiant Jewish community and then goes on to give us a speech about patriotism. If anything he's piggybacking on the attack for his own outrage as everything he says after his intro about the attack is largely irrelevant to the specific attack he references at the beginning of the video.
