If this forum is representative we're becoming a one track country obsessed with one thing only. Which would be fine and dandy if it was going to make a blind bit of difference.

The immigration financial numbers sound big but they are really a drop in the ocean and irrespective of the rights or wrongs aren't going to solve anything. The underlying issue this country has is that for about 40 years now we have let the ultra rich extract more and more at the expense of everyone else and we're finally at breaking point. The numbers dwarf even the worst case scenario for poor border controls.

So if a politician offers you better boarders and also taxing the ultra rich to reduce massive inequality then sure vote for them because they are on your side.

If a politician offers you taxing of the ultra rich but nothing on borders then, even if you'd prefer they do something on borders, still vote for them because they are on your side.

But if a politician offers you only control of borders but nothing about taxing the ultra rich to reduce inequality then don't waste your vote on them because it's not going to work. And while you're there have a think about why they are focusing on that when the much bigger issue is how much the ultra rich are extracting from society?

I get why people are concerned about immigration and it's wrong to label anyone who expresses concern as racist. But the immigration debate is the equivalent of an entire opposition defence marking Bobb because he's got quick feet and leaving Haaland with no one within 10 metres of him.

We've properly taken our eye off the ball, the only thing that will make this country work again is a rebalancing of wealth between the ultra-rich and everyone else. It's the only thing that will save this country, nothing else adds up. Its not like it's going to be easy which is all the more reason we should be talking about that rather than small boats.

You're right though, it isn't necessarily racist to want stricter controls. However, there are also large numbers of racists who do share that view, I don't think you can deny that. Why do you want the controls to be stricter?

Maybe because most people don’t want their great grandchildren to be a persecuted minority in a country that their great grandparents fought and died for and in hindsight probably wished they hadn’t

I see this kind of thing mentioned, but in all honesty (and without having any facts admittedly), I think you'd need to add about 5 more generations to that before you're anywhere near.

And even then, if you treat people well the whole time instead of resorting to hatred, would they want to persecute any minority?

You do also realise though that the fight in WW2 was against fascism? Not for it?

Cool, it looks like the "divide and conquer" tactics that I stupidly believed everybody was able to see for the bullshit that they are, are working to a tee.

It's like the dippers suddenly being willing to believe everything that the media tell them about our 115 case despite their knowledge of the lies they're willing to tell to reach their goal, simply because the liars now have somebody else centred in the crosshairs.

The job of these people is literally to rile people up about 'outsiders' coming into the country. It's a tactic which is hundreds of years old. People coming over on boats has happened for as long as there's been boats. It's not a new thing. The only thing which has changed is the exposure of it as news since social media especially turns it into a larger narrative and problem than it really is. There's no real world scenario where an entire coast line is covered to stop people crossing - it's literally impossible as it's over a hundreds of miles long.

What are you expecting? An army helicopter to fly around and shoot & sink the boats?

Sink one or two bet it will at least slow down or stop them, seriously though I think with the government thinking up new ways to take more money of us almost everyday
And then you hear of these immigrants costing the tax payer 5m a day to support them then you can see where the anger is coming from.
Why can’t we have at least some kind of boarder controlled boats stop them once they’ve launched and turn them around
They might not catch them all but surely they can be tracked at launch and once into our waters just turn them around.
I’m guessing there’s a reason it’s not that easy.
