Gary Owen.

Was sat next to him at a bar, on Brighton seafront, about three hours before kick-off, final game of last season. I was already hammered by that point!

What a fucking brilliant day. What a location to celebrate a title, especially with that glorious weather. One of my best days as a City fan. Pure magic.
We were in the same hotel bar though outside top weekend, think he was in a strong St. Helens youth team with Ray ransom . Was fortunate to play golf with him once in a society day asked him about the transfer just said mal didn’t fancy him , great gutsy player & a top blue who should never of been sold but we all know that .

Anyone remembrr Big Mal justifying selling Gary on some interview? Basically saying he didn’t fancy him as a player, which I thought was fair enough. It’s not like he went on to be a world beater. He was a good pro, who can rightly be proud of his career, but he was not top draw.

He was city through and through and still is....he never forgave Alison for what he did behind his back

Last time i saw him he was pissed up on Brighton front in May, walked past that hotel bar loads of blues were in & we got a quick pic with him. Always been great when I've met him

Stand next to Gary sometimes when working match day always have a good laugh with him, he hates United and sings along with the fans when it gets going to the stadium, top bloke, his son in law owns an Irish bar in Manchester that used to be Taps.

Had a quick word with him at the hotel bar on Brighton sea front after the decider...… He was VERY happy.....(and was there before and after the game so he'd probably had a fair few !!)

Correct. Remember beating coventry 2-0 at home maybe 78 and he scored both goals, penalties in the second half in the North Stand.
Nice one. Just looked that game up Ray Gobles (RIP)book......1978/79 Oct 14th 1978 2nil win. Owen managed 11 goals from midfield that season ,a good return for a centre mid...Always liked his style of play.a grafter. Give and go...a bit imo like Neil Mcnab for us in the late 80s...played a simple game.ball on the deck, pass and move.....Mcnab was then of course at the end of his career...having started as a Winger aged 15 at Morton.Scotland.

He was doing a show on XS radio with Mickey Thomas as the red half. Sounded like they were mates on it. Feck of a sight better than the one on Radio Manc now.

Top player but I was always Barnes in the schoolyard.

The guy is an all round top blue and stands his corner against any rag scouser or any outher fucker who has a go at city

Still does a great Rod Stuart on karaoke

He did get plenty of goals in 1978-79, although he was our penalty-taker that year so not all his goals came from open play. I agree though he was a fine player and I believe he shed tears when Allison got rid of him.
