Gas & Electricity

What pisses me off is that many of those receiving today will be "hands out again" in winter cause they have blown it all, and the honest hard worker will finish up subbing them again. Should be doing cash Credits against gas and eleccy would have been much safer.
Neither will likely be able to afford their bills come January, whether it’s the “hands out again” or ”honest hard worker”.

I’m with Octopus and I choose what my direct debit is. They only make a recommendation but I set it at what I want.
I pay for what I use each month.
Bollocks to paying in advance for the winter months. I get the interest on my money, not them.
I submitted readings this morning and we are £160 in credit. I have just reduced our D.D to £100 for a few months to allow that credit to bleed out,

I was under the apprehension you had to comply with their monthly payment amounts. As the prices go up in October we will increase to £200 to test the waters allowing for the governments £400 input.

I never want to be in the position again as we were with Avro, holding just shy of £500 before they went under.
Having said all that we are happy enough with the service Octopus provide, and am more than happy that we can now adjust the payments on our portal as and when. Big help that.

Whatever you do chaps a warning about SO Energy.

They are completely useless as a company so much so that I cancelled my direct debit as I never got a response from emails I sent them regarding it going from £90.35 in March up to £185.25 in April.

I have a spread sheet to calculate the bill and because of the stupid way gas is calculated with one of the mutipliers changing from 3.7 to 3.9 in June I ended up 7p in debt after I made a payment to them on the 1st July.

I sent them meter readings on 14th July and at the same time made a payment of £37.50 which their web site acknowledged and said that I was now £37.43 in credit.

Today when I look at their web site I am 7p in debt, what the fuck happened to my payment.

Sent an email to their "help" department and had the standard automatic reply.

They are the worst company I have ever had the misfortune to deal with.

We pay £170 a month to Octopus currently, and are £150 in credit. They do keep recommending an increase, however, they have actually upped the DD twice without agreement or notification. Keep having to ring the fuckers to say put it back to £170. Our credit will build over the next couple of months and plan to just dump the £400 in the account to help over winter.

By the way, do we get the £400 as a direct payment into our bank accounts as we did with the payment a couple of months ago?

How do you feel about subsidising these utilities companies with your taxes as you pay for their profit margins, since you mention 'handouts', so scathingly?

Octopus here too, upped our DD from £76 to £160 to meet our 'target balance'

Although we have now just moved from a Bungalow to a house might not be too far off, currently only £50 in credit and not if to leave DD as it is?

Nope.
I pay £100 a month.
They suggested putting it up to £180 with a fancy graph and set it at that. They said if I wasn’t happy I could set it anything I wanted so I put it back to £100 a month.
I am not using that much dual fuel in the summer.
I also claw back any credit over £50 every quarter.
I happily pay for fuel as and when I use it.
They are not using me as a credit facility.
