Gas & Electricity

I turned my central heating on today for an hour for the first time in over a year. I had to setup my Goggle Nest Thermostat again. I felt bad and dirty. I must admit, the house felt lovely and warm before and after my bath. Back to the new Fat Moose fleece jumper and electric blanket tomorrow. I’ve also got 2 pairs of Alpaca Wool Socks on the way, just to wear around the house. I’m getting ready for Winter. Bring it on!
tight arse - put it on when you're cold, end of! I work from home most days from my office upstairs, I'm damned if I'm gonna shiver during bl**dy Teams Calls - according to Hive I started using mine on 20th September - today its been on about 3 hours - I'm also on Octopus but not Agile (yet) - I have a leccy car to keep topped up too but I do so few miles I only ever fill it once a month, 19th was this months charge day, 22nd last month - only spoilt by my daught sneaking a charge in once a month too! ;-)

I’m not tight, Steve. :-)

I’ve got used to not having the heating on.

TBH there were times last Winter when I was very cold, but I stuck it out. I did it just out of bedevilment, and to see if I could do it. I won’t being doing it again this Winter. During Spring, Summer, and Autumn I keep my windows open as much as I can. I like fresh air in the house. I prefer fresh air to the dry air you get from the central heating being on. I’m still torn between my fixed Octopus tariff before the price went up, and going over to Agile. I honestly can’t work out if Agile will be cheaper than my fixed tariff or not. I put my Fat Moose fleece on 2 hours hour ago after my bath, and I’m lovely and warm. It cost me £29 from TKMaxx. It should have been £90. I bought 2 of them for £58. Will I make that money back in heating savings over Winter, I don’t know.

I've given up the battle now, even last Wednesday when it was about 20degrees and unseasonably warm apparently it was "freezing". Just got to sit in the house in shorts and t shirt with no socks on and accept I am burning money away.

I've just checked and we have use 129kWh Electric and 150 kWh Gas so far this month. It's an 8 year old 2 bed apartment with combi boiler.

Interesting.

In what way? We are getting used to using agile, however I will reserve judgement until spring to see how we cope in winter, Xmas lights etc. we just do our washing etc when it’s low and most of our food is either done in air fryer, prior to 4pm or reheated in microwave so isn’t a massive cost, or we cook on gas. Basically if it’s below the fixed 25p we are winning.

I’m not saying you aren’t winning.

I get home about 3pm. From then onwards the internet is on. A light bulb is on in each room I go in. :-) I cook around 8pm most nights. Air Fryer. Sometimes the electric oven. I prefer to eat late. If a match is on I’ll watch it. Then I go to bed and the electric blanket is on. I pretty much stick to this routine most days. I need to get a life. :-(

I probably would save with Agile, but as the nights grow longer, the the lights are on longer, the electric blanket is on longer, and other electrical items are on throughout the evening, whille electricity is more expensive on Agile. TBH I’m guessing what I would save on Agile compared to my current cheaper fixed rate really isn’t that much.

I will definitely move over to Agile in the spring, through Summer, and into early Autumn next year.

In a perfect world I would have installed solar panels and a battery by now, but I plan to sell my current house in the coming years, so I’m not wasting my money on solar panels for somebody else to reap the rewards. My next house will have a heat pump, solar panels, a battery, and a EV charger. I’ll pay for those out of the sale of my current house. Apart from saving me money longterm, it’s a good investment when selling the house in the future, if I ever do?

Is it really worth going over to Agile from my fixed rate until the price of electricity and gas drops again in Spring?

Electric.

Oh I totally get it, tbh I think your doing right waiting until spring as you are out the house most of the day, the total opposite to us, if the prices get silly through 4-8pm in November I’ll probably switch to fixed as in December it would only be the same or worse.
