Gas & Electricity

I think the penny is finally dropping in my house. Instead of the other half stood with the back door wide open vaping her head off, she is now just putting the window on the latch and turning the extractor fan on. She has also started wearing a hoodie/jumper instead of cranking the thermostat up to 30 degrees. She has also stopped going down for a brew in the morning and whacking the heating on full for 10 minutes before she has a shower, gets dressed and fucks off to work (where she usually forgets to turn the thermostat off).

My bills might actually come down lol

Our bill has gone up from 2k per year to over 4k per year. £375 per month. wtf.

Anyone else getting their new bills/estimates?
Ffs, that’s a lot, Kompany car alerted me to the cost of electricity over gas, I’ve not had the electric fire on recently and the usage is about £1.50 a day, my bill for December was £118 so I’ve more than halved the bill. I’ll pay more for the gas but its way cheaper than electric.

I would imagine ours will go over £400 (electric and gas combined). We'll find out when we get back to the UK but it was around £350 a couple of years ago.

Email from British Gas ....54% increase in April

Another 30% increase October

Further increases next year and in the future.

I would imagine 2022 on the whole is going to be a somewhat difficult ride for our hospitality sector.

As far as I understand it if you have a fixed tariff your prices won’t go up will they ?
Iam with shell on some tariff which ends feb 2023 and the email they sent it seemed like I would say on this until the contract ends. Isn’t it only the people out of contract and on a general non fixed tariff these crazy increases apply to ?

We’re with EOn and it’s going up by about £1,000 a year to almost £3k a year. Strangely I thought gas would be the bulk of it as the missus likes the heating on a lot but electricity is much higher. We only have kitchen appliances, lights and tv, why is electric so much? Oh she vacuums every day, maybe it’s that. And I have a lot of brews!

Yes

I sort my mums bills out and had email today. She is 74, clinically quite vulnerable so needs to stay warm and her bill is going up from £1100 a year to £1850. She lives on her own. I am dreading breaking this news to her.
