Gas & Electricity

Sky business correspondent just said he has been sent an email from a energy specialist this morning in which he says he expects energy cap to rise to £3000 by October!
They'll blame the Ukraine crisis for ramping it up whilst increasing their own profits

This is the crux for me as well. It’s all good and well ramping prices and blaming circumstance but to then see year after year, profits in the £billions it’s at that point you say fuck this.

The pain we as consumers feel must also be felt at corporate level and if that means no profits and no dividends then so be it and it’s definitely something a government should look at possibly introducing legislation to cover.

I think that its mainly pension funds? possibly yours that suffer not the bosses

Soon enough we'll all be down at the stream washing our clothes because we can no longer afford to turn on the washing machine

We were paying £120pm to AVRO, had £160 credit when they went under, was transferred to Octopus and managed to burn up the credit by January, so upped the payment voluntarily to £150. Have put the meter reads in today and am now £86 in debit, so they are putting the payment up to £177pm, strange thing is they say they will drop it to £144 in September, don't suppose that's ever going to happen, either way it's beginning to bite now, only saving grace is that we're all in the same boat and it's not personal.

So what happens if you literally cannot afford to pay the increase?

I live alone, everything’s going up X% and I have nothing left at the end of the month as it is. A

Just had an email from eon.

Estimated annual costs from 1 April 2022:
flash@2x.png
Electricity: £1,199.23
Price difference:

Electricity: £354.35 increase
So i would think 2000 with gas, which would be up from a total of around 1200. Happy New Year.

Don't get a smart meter and rig the old ones. Piece of thin plastic can slip in and stop the disc from spinning, leave it in a few days and remove as and when you feel like.

Turn off Gas, cloth over the nuts and turn the metre around and turn the gas back on, will rewind some of the older meters, or replace it with another meter for a few weeks and then put your real one back on haha.

All allegedly of course.

All the luxuries will be gone for many. Spending 100 quid down the pub on a weekend will be a thing of the past. The energy crisis will crucify the economy.

I switched energy suppliers in Oct 2021 and my new supplier wants, get this, £248 just for my gas for the month of October and I'm on fixed rates for two years. I've only got six rads in the entire house, the back kitchen area downstairs doesn't even have central heating. So during that mild month I've apparently used enough to heat a school. I'm in dispute with them. To put that into context, my bills for Dec&Jan, the coldest months, £190 for both.

£4?
You don't live in Chorlton clearly....
I did add the "+"
The other night I stayed in a hotel which has it's own brewery and their incredibly drinkable IPA was £4 a pint

Where I live it's close to a fiver for a pint of pissy lager
Get pissed at home.
Dirt cheap compared to those prices.

I do
The only time I buy beer out is when I'm having a meal
But my post was in reply to a poster who questioned spending £100 in the pub at the weekend

I routinely do that. I get two weekends a month off and on those I like to get out. That avenue of enjoyment looks like being closed off
