Gas & Electricity

Absolutely ridiculous price hikes. We have offers come through for new fixes for mine an my mums from current suppliers
Mum - £651 / month
Ours - £971 / month

WTF - my mum is 85 years old and lives on a state pension on her own. Do they want these people to freeze.

I'll be interested to see what the profits are for all the Utility companies at the end of the next Financial year. Appreciate costs have gone up but these companies can't walk away saying they have made massive profits while there are people who will be struggling to stay alive

eerrrr....here we pay....about £16 for electricity and £8 for gas....and the electric also includes the council tax !

Don't even know what to say. Thought mine was high at over £400 a month. It's a fucking joke.

All I can say is go around the house and switch off and unplug anything not being used. Tell the kids not to leave stuff on standby etc. I've stopped using the dryer and dishwasher too which is killing me having a large household.
See what you can reduce and no way would I up my directed debit. Mines at £264 a month and I'm not putting it up they can fuck off the greedy twats as I'm on renewable energy which is a piss take

Yes - We will definitely be doing all that - We have a 5 bed house but think all Thermostats and everything will be set quite low from now on - be staying on whatever variable tariff they offer as that will most likely mean a 54% increase. These companies will be boasting large profits to their shareholders in 18 months time. Thats what is really pissing me off and the Government are doing feck all about it

That can’t be right. I’ve just got a quote of £295 fixed until 2023 or £296 fixed until 2024, neither of which I’ll be taking.

Turning the lekky off doesn't work for all providers.

We've just had our notice of going onto standard variable from Eon from next month and it's the standing charge that is the killer. The actual charge per unit of electricity has gone up from 18p to 28p, the standing charge however has doubled from 22p to 42p.

So Eon are going to charge me £13 per month for the pleasure of supplying electricity before charging me for any actual electricity used.

So basically with that you can't even use less electricity to keep bills down. Our annual estimate change on the electricity alone is £450 per year to £750 per year so almost double.
 
If most of us, barring those who need it for medical reasons, asked them to terminate their gas and electricity supply, they’d fuckin shit themselves.
Back in 2002, my lecturer at college, a retired British Gas exec, was telling us the UK were due to run out of North Sea gas around 2025, but we hit a massive vein which would stand us in good stead until 2075, but we continued to buy our gas from abroad, it was cheap, and we also saved our own, so not fully buying into this shortage shit.

I wouldn’t be too sure about that mate, I’ve had this discussion before many many years ago with a major share holder of British Gas, he claimed the price hike would revert back to its original price eventually, I asserted it wouldn’t because once they have you paying it, they won’t be prepared to lose that profit, it never did revert back, and I doubt we’ll see any significant decrease, unless the public actually put their foot down.
