Gas & Electricity

Yes mate there are certain legal requirements in relation to the Environmental Health Authority, I’m in a “smoke free” zone but there are still loads of places up and down the country that aren’t, but even if I wasn’t , I’d still have chosen the smoke free option, but much depends on the borough you live ins policies.

As for the covenants in deeds etc, this may be more your line but I’m pretty sure given most houses were built to burn coal etc I can’t imagine why there would be a huge amount of houses affected or why they’d be there, I d imagine you’re at the mercy of your local authority as in my above paragraph , but happy to be corrected.

What would interest me is where people would stand if they were a private tenant, I can imagine there’d be restrictions in the terms and conditions ?

Depends on how long ago the house was built, I'm no expert but in the Property law module that covered the process of residential conveyancing from start to finish, it was something that was highlighted as a restriction on new build properties (that are sold as leasehold).

There usually would be some restrictions in a private tenancy , my tenancy agreement for a room in a HMO restricted me from using storage heaters, but all bills were included in package.

Depends on the care and skill putting it together, my tenancy agreement icluded the name of the landlord (misspelt), even though she owned it through a company so it should have been the company and not her.

And the management still kept in the standard terms about maintaining garden and cutting grass even though we had gardeners included in the rental package.

I agree about being at the mercy of the local authority, as these kind of restrictions generally vary by LA area.

They don’t want you on the SVR.
They are losing money on it.
Yes, and to make money on it, certainly later this year, they'd have to get people on a higher fixed rate - but surely they cant be expecting people to fall for the £971 a month comedy quote?

Apologies mate , yes I’m only referring to the majority on non new builds here, there’s a load of restrictions as you mention given newer laws etc.
The Local Authority stuff I only know because I had to research it all putting my stove in.
Thanks for the other comments too.

Turning the lekky off doesn't work for all providers.

We've just had our notice of going onto standard variable from Eon from next month and it's the standing charge that is the killer. The actual charge per unit of electricity has gone up from 18p to 28p, the standing charge however has doubled from 22p to 42p.

So Eon are going to charge me £13 per month for the pleasure of supplying electricity before charging me for any actual electricity used.

So basically with that you can't even use less electricity to keep bills down. Our annual estimate change on the electricity alone is £450 per year to £750 per year so almost double.

A pound to pinch of shit if situation returns to some sort of normality they`ll only reduce the price per unit and not the standing charge.

The standing charge, the one thing you have no control over , coincidence lol ?

The Govt are surely going to have to drop some of their levys on fuel

All these green taxes while energy costs spiral due to a war are unpalletabke

Why though? Its much cleaner than coal and would be a net reducer in emissions. It uses far less water than coal, natural gas and nuclear and it would make us self sufficient.

We don't have the time to build nuclear, they take about 10 years to spin up and are extremely expensive. We should max out what we have now, but the transition needs to be to a totally renewable future.

Farage is a total whopper, but I'm glad he had Dale Vince on his show the other day, to dispell some of the total crap he has been coming out with.

It's absolutely insane to me that in 2022 there are still weirdoes pushing an 'anti green' agenda and saying we 'need to have more debate on the matter'. What the fuck have we been doing the last 4 decades? Fed up of all this talking.
