Gas & Electricity

But it’s the standing charges that are outrageous, why are we paying for the collapse of private companies? Whether you turn on your heating or not it’s trebled! They should be saying what time limit is on that, get the standing charges back down. I’m not poor by a long shot but even now we are looking towards winter and getting decent blankets for the nights to use whilst watching tv etc. Xmas lights certainly won’t be on half as much. I certainly feel for those less well off whilst those profiteering will be drinking champagne and not giving a flying fuck.

my supplier went bust and british gas took over, got an email off em yesterday estimating my bill for the next year at £3119!

Get yourself some Solar powered lights instead, doesn't cost you a penny in leccy.

We left ours in our tree past Christmas and annoyed our small minded cunts of neighbours who had mains powered lights during the festive period and don't seem to be aware that you should close your curtains at night time.

What inside tree?

standing charges are fuck all compared to the unit prices, your anger is aimed in the wrong place. Standing charge is about an extra £6 to your monthly bill, unit prices are adding an extra £60 per month for comparison

My daily meter reading at the moment is
Electric £2.80
Gas 60p (not used at all lately)

Could be worse I think - but Winter will hit
When we have to use Gas

Listened to a guy from Ohcomon this morning talking about the price of gas.

He was telling us that if the gas price goes down, they will immediately reduce the price to us.

I thought, so you want praise you **** for reducing the price when the price falls?

What a fucking country. Run by cunts who employ cunts to treat us like stupid cunts.

Price of gas is currently ridiculously cheap. Trouble is, our genius energy companies have already bought gas for the next 6-12 months at eye watering prices and that is what will affect any price cap. We’ve currently got so much gas we can’t actually pipe it to Europe quick enough. Interestingly, bulb are just about the only company that is buying gas a ‘spot price’ so should, in theory, be able to reduce prices. In reality, the government will just spin it to say it’ll ‘make it easier to sell’.

I do love a Tory minister spouting off about things they’ve not got a clue about!
Best news is Sunak’s windfall tax he’s imposed on the country (not on the energy companies, obviously). £200 off your bill in October, to be paid back as £40 over 5 years. He says it’s not a loan and he’s absolutely right, as even the banks wouldn’t dream up a scheme like this. Imagine you’re in a house with 4 other people, could be a family, could be students, could be nurses, could be people just sharing a house. You get £200 of the house bill in October. Meanwhile, next year, everyone moves out and sets up home on their own. They then ALL pay the £40 a year for 5 years. It’s a scam, the likes of which I’ve never seen and it’s the government who are implementing it……….

This is her expenses claim, so she probably doesn’t need extra hours!

Has anyone had a wood fire installed recently ? Wondering what a rough cost would be Might be the way to go of gas prices go up again another 50% in October

We've got one. It is not a cheap way to heat your house. If you have some sort of supply of free or cheap wood then maybe but for me it heats 1 room at significant cost. Can easily get through a couple of bags of logs in a day in winter.

Having one installed now into a rural self-build. Just in time for the summer! Total cost about £6k, which includes the (13KW) inset stove itself, a limestone surround, a granite hearth and a stainless steel flue. Obviously pricey, but it's quite a large stove and a fair bit of work. Prices kept going up (because of inflation, which fuels more inflation), but it should shave a fair bit off the oil bill. The economic viability depends on how much gas/oil you use and your cost for logs. We've got an endless source of free wood, so it made sense. Not sure it does for the average house though, especially if you're on mains gas. I doubt oil/gas prices will be this high a year from now.

Not defending her in any way shape or form because she is a deplorable individual, but if you look at the expenses they are pretty much the same for all MPs (around 220k) and its predominantly made up of staffing costs.
No doubt they will be nice cushy jobs for friends and relatives though.
