Gas & Electricity

The way things are going a lot of households will be switching off their heating this coming winter to save money. This takes me back to my childhood when the vast majority of houses didn't have central heating and the only source of heat was a coal or gas fire in the living room. In the winter ice on the inside of bedroom windows and chuck an overcoat or two on the bed to keep warm.

Cue the Hovis tune and replies on the lines of "Overcoat? We used to dream of an overcoat".

Don't forget that the increased energy petrol and diesel costs includes tax.
Given with one hand and taken back with the other.
Cutting vat would have had an immediate positive impact to all consumers.

Thanks. We will slip through the net sadly if that is the case.
well it was the £200 grant they scrapped which was payable in october, that loan needed to be applied for and its been replaced with this £400 payment, its for all, i dont see any council tax banding restrictions,so if you pay CT you will be able to claim it,CT arears if you have any are not taken into account

My wife is a vicar. They don’t get a salary, they get a stipend.

They also get a house to live in and their CT and water paid for by their church’s PCC.

A weird system, but it is what it is.

As our house is technically a workplace too, we may be able to claim some expenses back, I guess.

surely you should have still got the £150 as that local council was only a payment bus for the govenment gift band A to D, it apears as i said no banding restrictions on the £400,do you pay for the heating if thats a yes i think you will be ok

Panels and a battery im looking at upwards of £8k, probably take 15 years to get that back. The price really needs to drop, something around £4k i would snatch their hands off.
Probably better to buy an electric car and use the energy when you are at home purely for charging the car, you could probably do that quite easily with a changeover switch. Or alternatively have a tank installed and use it to heat water for the house.
The feed in tariff is pathetic considering how much they sell the electricity for to the consumer.

But met with criticism that people driving big cars and living in big houses get more than those in a one bedroom flat.

A 10kwh battery is about £5k and panels for a good 4.5kwh system is about £6k on top. Batteries only makes sense if you can get cheap overnight electricity but these deals could be pulled without warning. So it's basically a £12k gamble and you have to stay in the same house within that timeframe. Like you say it needs to come down to £4-5k all in. It doesn't help that electricians are charging ridiculous day rates to fit the things

£150 for being disabled , party time , not
Plus £400 for every household.
Plus £650 (paid in 2 lump sums) for people on benefits (which I assume you are).
Grand total of £1200.
Which is a damn sight more than what was paid out when we last had an energy crisis in the mid 1970s.
(Sweet FA was what was given out by the Labour government then.)

When’s this likely to be? I’m moving in with the bloody missus in September!
Delay it. Looks like it’s October that the £400 is paid. It says anyone with a direct debit will be paid directly. Pre paid ones will get a voucher.

That £400 should just about cover the cost of powering Christmas dinner.
