Gas & Electricity

Holy shit Martin Lewis reporting prices up 65% in October! Then another 1% in January, who the fuck can afford this, it had to stop but how? What the hell can be done, nationalisation I don’t know but something needs doing.
Can you refuse to pay direct debit and just get sent a monthly bill? Pay for why you use rather than these companies having our money in their hands.
Live in Wetherspoons on their bottomless coffees?

At least when Russia shut off all the gas and oil in the winter we won’t have to worry how to pay our monthly bills.

Sounds grim but I will just be investing in more warm gear for us and the kids and completely doing away with the heating, we've luckily got a log burner that we haven't used since our lad was born 4 years ago as we have always worried about him going near it but that will have to do when it is middle of winter, they are young enough to not give a shit about it being freezing cold when they play outside etc so I don't think it will bother them really, I've already started doing daft stuff like making sure I only wash my hands with cold water and washing my face with cold water before bed just to avoid the boiler starting up, it's fucking crackers it's come to this in 2022 but there we are!

I moved to Octopus £300 in credit, was paying £120 per month for both. Logged into account yesterday, already £720 in debit , increased to £800 after I submitted readings yesterday. Octopus calculation for annual consumption is £3000 So assume that on top of 3k is £3800. This is insane for average families.

Fucking hell. That's madness.
What a shitshow we are in at the moment.

Don't get the remote display thingy that tells you how much you're using in real time, it will just piss you off even more mate.
That’s true but ours isn’t showing the leccry, it’s shite, however the gas shows and tbh yesterday we used 37p! 27p is the standing charge. The leccy will be the big one, we are both home tv is on most of the day and her laptop, no heating but once winter bites that’s when the heating will have to be on for her working from home. I need to get our loft insulated but with my back I can’t do it, think I’m going to ask a couple of lads from work to do it, bung them a few quid it will save me money in the long run.

I’m paying 118 a month still until August, so due for a massive hike, but considering going into a fixed term if I can get one, to protect against future rises, with 60% forecasted for October. The whole situation is seriously mental though, this is going to hit hard in winter for a lot of people.

I'm already paying £300 a month. I will not fix though. Just pay as much as you can afford now and go around the house unplugging daft shit you don't need. I don't have a dryer at the moment as mine broke but don't think I can go without one when winter comes. Looking at one of those heat pump ones.

Don't know what we're all going to do to be honest, it's looking grim unless the government give every family 10k extra. I mean they game themselves thousands just for fucking stationary during the pandemic. Knobs

No chance.
Current fixes are around 4 times the predicted hike!

I’ve just done this a month or so ago as we used to dry washing on the radiators.

Went for https://ao.com/product/b5t4923rw-beko-heat-pump-tumble-dryer-white-88796-126.aspx

It costs about 40p to dry a full load of clothes.
