Gas & Electricity

We just had our latest bill from Octopus (electric only). 518 kWh = £140.

At least 200 kWh of that is the electric car though and that's on the night-time rate (7.5p/kWh) so £15 to charge for the month (about 500-600 miles done). Compared to £150 of diesel for the same miles it's a massive saving.

We also did the Octopus saving sessions recently and got £6 off. With the government discount you get £65 off too so our actual bill is about £66... Not bad at all.

Monthly readings done , same as usual give or take

Gas 10

Elec 90

Takes will power but i can keep it down

No bill due but dd's up and down like a prossies knickers since nov

apologies if this is covered.

If my bill is £200, plus 5% VAT is £210...Then is reduced by the gov's £67, the final charge to me is 210 - 67 = £143 (or at least that is exactly how it is laid out to me in the email I get)

But then for my payments, I pay £125 direct debit a month (£18 short of the example above), but that is also then reduced by the £67, meaning I am now £85 short of the £143 owed

Why are they taking the £67 not only from the final bill but from my payment? also my payment is still leaving my account as £122?? is there fuckery going on here?? (no money has been re-instated into my bank)

also, because the bill is falling way short because they are knocking £67 off my payment, they are now asking for a way larger DD which in the summer will just be ridiculous. I cant help but feel this isnt being done in the best way.

Given these unprecedented times, and the fact that Shell, BP and others are making about £30 billion profit, why can’t the government force these energy companies to use some of this vast profit to subsidise everyone’s bills?

It would save the government money too as they could stop having to pay the £67 etc.

Is it because the CEOs of those companies would just pull them out of the UK if we did that?

If governments have learnt nothing of late, they have learnt that it’s the markets and big business that runs the country and any policy they don’t like or want and you are gone!

After my long running dispute with EDF and my smart meter not working they’ve finally admitted the smart system infrastructure is fucked, they’ve said they and their suppliers are looking into a national problem, they’ve given us £50 compensation. i hope they aren’t been subsidised by tax payers money to put these in.

not for consumers mate....for them to stop fiddling, keep an eye on usage (say if you suddenly don't have any usage = meter tampering) and to turn you off remotely or put you on pay as you go........massive con.

Mine have never worked (for me) only for them. They can get readings but I can't use my screen thing.

They have just said they can't do anything about it.

If it was primarily for consumers they'd sort it out pronto but no. It is designed for them.

If you ring them you always end up speaking to call centres, usually in South Africa, as well. They just put you on hold then cut you off.

something wrong with by bills for sure

now paying £25 (gas+electric) a month and have £1000 in credit

keeping money aside for when they correct the error or something

Elec 16th Jan - 22nd Feb - £176.39

Gas 16th Jan - 22nd Feb - £169.30

I'm sick to death of everything costing so much to be honest, this plus my mortgage jumping up £250 a month has completely wiped out anything we had left per month, we have the heating on for an hour before the kids go to bed and that's it, absolutely no idea how our usage can be so high because the only thing gas in the house is the boiler, the electric also seems very high but I spend any time I actually get at home turning everything off that everyone else just leaves on to piss me off. Mrs is back at work now after maternity leave so hopefully people being at home less will save us somewhere but we're definitely at the point where we are surviving now rather than really living life, this will be first time in 17 years I won't be renewing season ticket.
