It reminds me of a scene in Aaron Sorkin's The News Room where the main character on an election night broadcast asks a co worker who was politically opposite but a good friend to "Destroy me on air." to keep people watching the programme.
 
Apparently one of the shows from this far right bullshit channel is going to be called "Woke Hour"

No doubt Piers Morgan will get the gig, so he can continue his fight against "wokery"

Ever since Reagan dropped the Fairness Doctrine in the USA there has been a proliferation of RW bullshit media, that has since been followed by deregulation in the UK that allows nutjob news to be considered mainstream and mainstream news to be considered fake news. What is concerning is that these new media outlets are funded by the likes of hedge fund Billionaire Sir Paul Marshall, an Orange Book contributor.

I think it is fair to assume that this channel will be doing the bidding the of the Capitalist's and making sure division and demonisation is the norm.

Basically an attack on people that stand against racism, discrimination, women’s rights etc.

Not too bothered about the first 2 but I'd definitely stand against women's rights.
 
He's already got a fucking channel - Gammon TV is another grift to get more money - I bet all those eagerly awaiting his new stuff had no idea they can watch him already on a channel which has a small 116k subscriptions - I doubt Gammon TV will last a year - unless subscribers are tied in to a 12 month subscription..... and if Rod Liddle thinks very few Americans are interested in the Royal Family.......

Whether you agree with their views or you don't, isn't it good that these channels are on UK TV with the freedom of expression we have in this country ?

I get the feeling that you would like some news /media outlets banned guys? And surely that would be counter productive.

It'll be interesting, in a desperately sad way, to see how this pans out. Traditionally there hasn't been much appetite beyond the print media for in your face right wing agitprop. For years the talking gammons, like James Whale were marooned in fringe media, banished to graveyard slots.

I've given up guessing the mood of the British public, if these fuckers can keep their costs low, with government approval, and Murdoch finance, they'll give it a right go. If I was a betting man I suspect it'll survive, there's going to be a lot of discontent and general unhappiness for a good few years, and scapegoats must be found.

No way i would agree to ban it but this won't provide balance, it will just be an echo chamber for right wing viewers to spout about BLM and the EU and continue to cause division in society.

Its interesting you say that, My views are centre right in some areas, but centre left in others, I like listening to LBC when Im driving, it has a good mixture of presenters. I like Nick Ferarri, David lammy, Shelagh Fogarty and Eddie Mair, I find James Obrien a bit too extreme to be listenable at times, but he definitely should be on the radio broadcasting.

If you don't think it will provide balance where do you draw the line, is it at what you think will be acceptable as a balance and who do you think currently provides that balance proportionately?

I listen to LBC also all day long, great shows and mix.

I think BBC, ITV, Sky etc are pretty balanced to be honest.

I would be against a pure news channel whether it was Left or Right wing focused, but wouldn't agree to ban it.

Balance?

Come back when there's a channel, financed like this one, that calls for the commanding heights of the British economy to be brought in to public ownership and the dissolution of the Monarchy and the House of Lords for starters.

Then we can talk about balance.

To an extent. I don’t overly mind it as long as they very clearly differentiate between when they are providing news and when they are providing editorial opinion.

I do think our current media landscape is far less balanced than it has been historically, even taking into account its predominately centre right anyway. Papers like the Telegraph, they’d call out previous conservative governments for far less than they do with this one. Ditto a couple of the tv political journalists. I worry about the appointments they’re looking to make or have made in this space too.

We always need a media that scrutinises the people in power, regardless of who it is. I do hold a bit of hope in that Neil has been pretty good at doing that historically, the people GB News are hiring though has significantly reduced my optimism though.

My concern is not the channels output, it is the channels funders.

They are basically buying airtime to spout their own propaganda. Murdoch has done for it years and now these new players want a piece of the action.

My two observations were that I wonder how many people eagerly anticipating the new station even knew that you could watch already on YT?

Second - you only have to watch that to see how dull it will be regardless of your politics. Imagine 24 hours of that rolling !!?? The only reason "normal" 24 hr rolling news is bearable because its politics, sport, arts. entertainment, news from home and abroad........The only people who will subscribe and watch avidly will be those who will be like Trump followers who were groomed by Fox - whether thats enough to fund it time will tell

I would like to see a broad range. However the TV media is dominated by right wing opinion.

Left leaning and some good independent journalists only get exposure by Vimeo/you tube.

All i ask for Is balance. I'm concerned the big bad will be used to control people and GB News will fan it.

so dull... there viewers will be desperate for BLM or some other movement to protest , so they can get angry about something.

I would love the **** to have tried to shame my gran, she had 47 grandkids and I am certain all 47 of us would love to pay Hurst a visit and show him what shame is all about. The fucking ****.
