and after a good discussion about EU companies' investment in the UK and this area, he'll vote Remain in the next referendum (Leave before).

Hope he has a very good memory and a lot of patience as it might be a while ;-)

Thank you for your question, sir.

Oh yes. I don't know how his Momentum fans deal with it, but then it's by and large the old guard who do the hard slog campaigning not the newbies. But the main complaint is that "he isn't a leader", not particularly any baggage or policy, so if (like last time) he does leadership things (like visiting disaster areas) and does them well, and Johnson is exposed for the blustering buffoon he is, the damage may be limited. No-one calls Corbyn a Marxist. That's a bluemoon (Mail/Express) thing. But yes, Starmer would be storming it.

Anyway today's highlight was a housing association tenant who called me in to discuss a problem (temporarily rehoused into a marginal), so I've got him to register to vote here, and after a good discussion about EU companies' investment in the UK and this area, he'll vote Remain in the next referendum (Leave before).
Well done Vic. Just another 45 million to go.

Over 3000 wanted to stand and they would have done so and paid knowing that most wouldn't have been selected.

That is how it works.
It's the plot of The Producers. Get lots of "angels" signed up to fund the show, and make sure it's a flop so they don't have to be repaid.

Altogether now: "Springtime for Hitler..."

fair play to you vic .

The narrative being set is that its only BP candidates that have been asked to stump up money to run.

That simply isn't the case with British politics.

They stumped up money to run and were then prevented from running by the leader of a party that asked them to run and who now indicates he will vote for a different party thereby cutting the legs off of those still permitted to run for the party he leads and won’t vote for. But he still keeps all the cash.

Your concern for prospective Brexit party candidates is bringing a tear to my eye Bob.

Jaywick is a peculiar place. Two hours from London yet trapped in cyclical deprivation. I wouldn't blame this government for Jaywick. Locals elected two UKIP councillors who defected to the Conservatives. It needs a catalyst - but developers shy away from putting money in. And residents would oppose major clearances of areas where the houses were built decades ago as holiday homes.

That wasn't what was highlighted, nearly all the places are private rentals, no social housing has been built for years and the landlords are leaving people in shitholes while charing rents that are keeping people in poverty, those that do get out and move into better places, well these private landlords just fill them back up without a regard for improving them.

This government opposed stricter rules on private landlords and the local council ukip/con have done fuckall to see to the community needs.

The governments lack of social housing and rental control is to blame in my wyes

No idea but it costs £thousands to run a campaign, upwards of £30k and only one can win and go on to the gravy train that is parliament.

In a perverse way he has saved over 300 of them a shit load of money in pulling them.

The vast majority of the other 300 that will run will lose huge amounts of their own cash in doing so, as will Labour, Tory, Lib Dem candidates etc.

That said he should give them the £100 back if they request it but that would depend on any terms agreed before hand and my guess is, because there is no guarantee of winning, never mind being selected that they wont get a bean.

Thought i heard that over 3000 applied as well so you can assume they also paid the £100.

Could be wrong but I presumed it’s £100 if you’re selected to be BXP candidate, not to apply to be their candidate, if you then don’t win in your constituency then you obviously don’t get it back but if the BXP choose to not run in that constituency, surely you get it back?

I’m guessing if you’re a LibDem and they form a pact with other remain constituencies and you’re no longer selected as their candidate, get reimburse you.

I couldn’t believe the cost of some of the rent for the shitholes they lived in.

I’ve paid less and lived in much nicer, in my late teens/early 20’s.

I may be confused here, but I thought the candidates had paid the BP or Farage to stand and thats’s the money we are talking about, not the deposits paid to whoever deposits are paid to to contest the seat. As the deadline hasn’t been reached yet I would have thought the deposit money hadn’t been paid.
I’ve always assumed the parties paid all the candidates deposits at least the main parties again I could be wrong.

I think it's not as bad as some are making out.
It's a sad indictment of how stage managed the whole process is now.
But as an advertisement, which is exactly what it is, it would appeal to a certain audience, which is the purpose of it.

Integrity amongst any of them is not top of the priority list.
Yep

I was - like you - just commenting on its likely effectiveness

Is it not as valid a strategy as what they are fighting against.
As I said previously, integrity has long since left the building, but fighting the same tactics as was used in the referendum with the same losing tactics you employed then would come across as not having learnt anything from your mistakes.

I don't condone any of it. I find it all very distasteful and our own politics in Ireland is nothing to crow about either.
But it is what it is. If you spend your time trying to explain how the other side's lies are lies, then you are constantly on the back foot and playing catchup.
Is it better fighting fire with fire?
It remains to be seen.
The point I was trying to make is that Labour gave gone one trick pony

As you point out - good if it is working....

... The point is that it is not

Farage has said on that London radio station they aren’t getting a penny back.

3000 people paid £100 each to be considered as candidates.
All trousered by the Brexit Company.
