This is an interesting read.....

A Labour defeat, yes, but this was not nearly as bad as 1983

That article’s a bit desperate. Labour were up against a government that had just given us 9 years of austerity and cutbacks and managed to turn that huge political advantage into defeat. Foot had the Falklands war victory to contend with in 1983. 2019 was three times as bad as 1983 for Labour, and the blame lies squarely with Corbyn.

I thought Johnson had a plan for social care.
That wasn't a lie, was it?
This is what he said around July/August:
“My job is to protect you or your parents or grandparents from the fear of having to sell your home to pay for the costs of care,” he said.
“And so I am announcing now – on the steps of Downing Street – that we will fix the crisis in social care once and for all, and with a clear plan we have prepared to give every older person the dignity and security they deserve.”

So the "clear plan we have prepared" doesn't get a mention. Probably just an oversight as it couldn't possibly be Johnson lying again. Could it?

...into a separate employment bill, which includes a new enforcement body for workers, extended redundancy protections and a new right for workers to request "a more predictable contract".... weren't you aware of that?
Obviously not, because we're going out of the EU, we are hardly likely to have their rules imposed on us,
all these will be gradually removed and replaced by those dictated by Parliament.

All of them? That would mean we'd be doing Brexit for a century.

"Tories to remove EU Human Rights...!" :O

"...and replace it with British Bill of Rights"

It would appear to be common sense to realise this, yet some people are still looking for a reactionary outburst over thinking logically.

EU rules were encapsulated into UK law, it won't take long to remove them.
Now that the opposition is non existent.

Or we can leave them in place if we agree with them (as I'm sure we'll be the case for many). Leaving gives us the power of choice though.

Plus the economy was discernibly on the up in 1983 after several years of being in the doldrums. Our present economy is anything but buoyant.
