Not seen much discussion about it here, and I haven't heard May questioned on what she intends to replace it with, or indeed how, but the Conservative Party manifesto contains a pledge to abolish the Fixed-term Parliaments Act.

Were it the former, then why not mention it in the manifesto? After all, it would simply appear like a return to 'tradition'.
The lack of detail does make me suspicious. I mean, it's not as if this policy even needs costing. :-)

Looks like a Conservative win is inevitable tomorrow, although the pollsters have got quite a few things wrong recently so we can but hope.

Either way, it's been a far more dignified and effective campaign from Corbyn than May, which seemed unlikely when the election was called. The left are in better shape than they have been for a few years, and the swingeing Tory cuts are coming under greater scrutiny. May's reputation has been badly damaged, and it wouldn't be a great surprise to see a leadership challenge before long.

Think the best we can hope for is that the young come out and vote in significant numbers, and the Conservatives don't get the greatly increased majority that they were expecting just a few weeks ago.

That's about the long and the short of it. Corbyn has moved the centre of politics to the left, silenced the Blairites in his party (it is his party now) and he's assured of getting a left winger on the ballot for when he shuffles off.

May? She's finished...The first concession she makes in the Brexit negotiations, the first flush of euro shit she has to eat, the first payment we make to Brussels for crumbs off the table, the first major employer upping stumps and heading for the Czech Republic..... She's dead in the water.

The reason the SNP won 57 out of 59 seats last time is simply because all the thickos are in Scottish Labour.

You only have a right wing press demonising the SNP as they did with Corbyn. But, similar to Corbyn when people hear what they say rather than the shite rags like the Hate Mail et all portray them, they ignored these right wing lying racist scum bastards.

Same with Corbyn showing how easily fooled you all have been down there. Brainwashed I to believing voting in your own interest was wrong.

At least eyes have been opened and the press shown for what they are.

I don't really see why people buy papers anymore unless they're from a generation of the past. They're all about telling you the version of events through their agenda so if that's you're only source you wouldn't see the flaws.

I don't think any mainstream papers are actually right wing. They just push certain ways of delivering news in order to manipulate by preying on basic human emotion.

There are a lot of thickos who go into politics in general though I'll agree if you're saying SNP are generally brighter and more intelligent. Do they demonise Sturgeon? Some papers may but in terms of television they give her more air time than the prime minister outside of election time, she's utterly irrelevant to England, Wales & N.I., she's not an MP. They don't have to demonise a woman with a clear agenda to break up the country to get people to sling insults at her or SNP.

Personally I think SNP's politics bar the hypothetical Scottish independence are probably closest to my views. They are spot on on so many things because they are normal, northern British folk and we all generally think alike on issues. It's their conning people of what Scottish identity is in an effort to bring about independence which makes me loathe them, they are utterly blinkered by it because there are significantly better ways to benefit Scotland's lot than through independence. They are also part of the Celtic League political movement which is complete and utter bullshit in it's agenda of self-determination. We all know there's a lot of SNP voters that don't want independence but have thrown their hat in with SNP for the time being.

I wish I shared your pessimism. I note the FTSE crashed through the 7500 mark pretty resoundingly, so there's a lot of market speculators not so confident right now. I am very twitchy about it myself. Would I be absolutely shocked if Labour won? No, I wouldn't.
