#MCFCAl Hilal set to proceed with agreement on personal terms with Bono as new GK after deal agreed with Sevilla on €21m fee.

these 8 or 9 year contracts are such a massive gamble, if they turn out to be absolute world beaters, you've got them tied down but if they turn out to be flops you are stuck with them for such a long time
I need to ask Stefan, if Chelsea can theoretically have clauses where they offer pay rise say 2 years in, but on obligation of say 4 year contract..etc etc, therefore ending the 8/9 year length. Imagine trying to buy one of their players on a 9 year. Transfer fee would be through the roof

It's risky. Could end up with another Saul Niguez situation. Played so well for a couple of years, massively dropped off with about 5 years left still, and Atletico can't get rid.

but conversely if those players arent performing they wont be able to get rid of em for love nor money without taking a huge hit

See I was wondering if it's legal to offer the 8 year for Enzo with really moderate salary to get around FFP then the club activate a clause that says they will review after 1 or 2 seasons and if we increase by 25% the contract will reduce by 2 years. In theory (and that's all it is) a top performer would double salary in 4 years and by then they'd be getting results on the pitch

Im just not sure how that would work contractually, because if you go in at a low wage with guaranteed clauses in there saying your wage will raise by this much in 2 years time then you have no need to perform as you will be getting that rise anyway

The clause is club activated in this scenario. So say Enzo flops, he doesn't get the rise.
