Manchester City are on the verge of completing a deal worth around €14 million (£11 million) for highly-rated Sassuolo right-back Šime Vrsaljko, according to
SPORT.
A day after the same newspaper
linked City with another right-back, Arsenal’s Héctor Bellerín, they today claim a deal for the Croatian international is almost done. 24-year-old Vrsaljko has been also linked with Bayern Munich, Atlético Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus recently, with Catalan-based
SPORT claiming Barca’s international director of football Ariedo Braida has been regularly ‘spying’ on the player.
Vrsaljko, who is also capable of filling in at left-back, has won 15 caps for Croatia and was one of their youngest ever captains when he wore the armband against Argentina in 2014. That year, he joined Sassuolo from Genoa for €3.5 million and has become one of Serie A’s most impressive full-backs for the overachieving
I Neroverdi.
SPORT are adamant that City have almost closed a deal for the player who would replace either Zabaleta or Sagna as part of Pep Guardiola’s planned overhaul.
