General transfer rumours

What is the purpose of a media brief before good things happen? Genuine question. I can understand briefing that we're NOT in for a player, to try to control all the bullshit "snub" articles when we don't sign them, but why risk a deal going wrong when it's not yet over the line? What is the reason for such a brief? What is gained from it that wouldn't also be gained through being patient for say one more week for the official announcements/briefings?

I can't figure this one out either. I'm sure they are all damn near 100% but still a pretty brazen move on city's part. I wonder what the strategy is here?

I think there's two purposes:

1. To keep the media onside, they get very little information from the club, particularly under Pellegrini, so they resorted to making up negative shit and talking about empty seats to fill column inches. Giving the hacks a few drips of info on transfers keeps them onside.

2. It appeases the flappers, and judging by these threads, there are plenty of them. I'm very confident of Sane, Jesus and Moreno getting done now. Pretty much every paper is reporting the same story that these 3 should get done in the next week or so, so it's clearly a brief from the club. I guess these stories being leaking before they are official helps to engage fans, generate interest in the club and lets fans read up a bit about the players before they sign. All helps to build excitement for the new season and drive ticket and merchandise sales. It's the equivalent of a band giving snippets / artwork / info on a new album before it's released, helps to build anticipation.
