I don't know what Ederson will go for if he moves but he is in the final year of his contract.

Ballin for the u18s, not made the step up to EDS yet. Will probably get bumped this summer with a few others, see how he handles the change

Agree. However if we bought him for 35m back in 2017 and he's on a new contract he is in our books for nothing. So any fee is pure profit.

If we pay 100m to replace him to a keeper on a 5 year deal then 100m is 20m a year. 15m is equivalent to a 75m transfer fee on a 5 year contract.

So 15 to 20m is about right.

Financially we've done great business again but I'd be more concerned on who we are bringing in being up to the job.

It gels with Peps comments about the squad being to big. He wants to be able to give all the players a decent chance and he can't with the squad we have. Foden had lost his place by the end of the season and McAtee had a few games, looked decent but he's a long way of getting ahead of Foden.

If there's new players coming in there has to be room for them.

Yeah, had him going, didnt have Amorim being interested in him looking at how he sets a team though.

Making it work for ffp is a separate thing to the raw figures being below market value. If i buy something for a tenner then discover its worth £10k, im not going to happily sell it for £100 even if It nets me ten times my money.

Dippers are selling their second choice for £20m, they signed mamardashveli last year for £30m, we'll probably end up paying about £50m for Costa, theres not a chance Ederson is worth less than any of them and thats before factoring in the Saudi tax, everybody seems to get about 50% more than they're worth from Saudi unless its us.

I'm also concerned with Costa being good enough. admittedly i've not seen much of him of late and it's entirely possible he's improved substantially since then given his age but when i saw him when he was first making a name for himself i got the same impression of him as I did with onana at Inter. Don't think he's any better than Ortega with the ball either.

I still think there are better options in Serie a than Costa but they are most likely too young for Pep or Costa has something we don’t see.
The Onana impression is something I never thought about but giving u mentioning that it makes sense. Always open for some type of failure and his last 2 seasons weren’t that good. Especially this one they say he had a couple of bad games and was very inconsistent. I still think Suzuki or the Roma goalkeeper are better than Costa especially long term but I am not a scout.

The 10k analogy ignores the fact we only have him for 1 more year. What is 1 year of Ederson worth.

If he's a 100m keeper then he's worth 20m a year (on a 5 year deal).

So 10 to 20m is about right. Personally I'd keep him for that year as I rate him but the consensus seems to be its time to change.

That's a fair point. But we've still seen Saudi pay through the roof for players in the last year of their contract.

Unless he's kicking up a stink, I'd keep him and lose him on a free next year if needs be, he's irreplaceable and we aren't going to be able to play the dominant way we do (at our best) without him.

I've not watched much football outside of us lately so I couldn't comment on who to get as an alternative or potentially better option. To me costa is somebody who just doesn't look stable, susceptible to a proper clanger a little bit too often. Like I say though, that impression is a bit dated, I've not seen him recently so maybe he's improved in that regard. Bloody hope so if he's coming here.
