General transfer rumours

Fair point on Musiala
Absolute panic buy after mane disaster
But bundesliga is poor compared to premier league and they are overpaying for a player who wants out
Bayern sporting director under pressure to bring in a big name I think, as ridiculous as it is. They will walk the league for the next few years as all the other clubs have been picked apart by the rest of Europe.

My thought process is more based on moving on Gundog & Kova this summer, & also with the uncertainty of what happens to Bernardo next summer.

If Pep loves versatility, then a focused, on form Paqueta would tick several boxes.
I'd be happy for Gundo and Kova to move on, but I think they're the answer to my question (I spaced out and forgot Kova- how long is he out injured?). No 6 has ever shown up and played for Pep straight away, Rodri needs a backup more than ever, and I'm very curious who will end up filling in.

I feel a bit uneasy about Saudi clubs about to pay significant money to our rivals for Darwin Nunez, Joao Felix and that joker Antony. basically giving the freedom to our rivals too make expensive flops and then still get brutal fee for them when selling which wouldnt happen without the Saudis and they would need to loan them possibly.

I think he's penned in to return after the international break in September. We also have the curious case of Gonzalez. We buy him for £60m+ in January, but select Gundog ahead of him in the CWC.

Even with Rodri out, we used him sparingly. Pep knows the players better than any of us, & I know many need time to bed in & get used to Pep's tactics, but there are matches when many of our new recruits weren't used. Matches where we were comfortably ahead, but yet they still weren't utilised.

This is the problem with a small elite squad. If we get a few injuries, the players we have to fall back on are the one's seemingly not trusted by Pep. Something has to change. We've seen the damage caused last season, by rinsing out a small elite squad in the previous seasons.

To me, it's no different to having a Hypercar & driving it everywhere flat out, & not putting aside time for servicing & maintenance.

Understand Chelsea and Ajax will be again in direct contact from start of new week for Jorrel Hato deal.Hato has been clear with Ajax: he only wants Chelsea, the contract is ready… up to the clubs.Talks well underway.

Fill me in?
Dubravka and Pope?
Going for several keepers but not prepared to pay decent money for one.
Dubravka i actually like, hes a very competent second choice. Pope though is 33 now, had quite a lot of injuries of late and just isnt all that good, He's especially woeful with his feet.

I dont think it's neccesarily a top priority for them to get a keeper but it's definitely an area to improve. I think they can upgrade pretty easily and for a reasonable price and given keepers tend to stick around at clubs much longer, they dont come on the market as often so if the chance to get somebody comes up it would be prudent of them to go for it.

Weird transfer policy. Leeds just got a better keeper than Pope. Again. They are somehow obsessed with PL proven players. Must be an howe thing.

Where does he fit in?

Who do we sell to make way for him?

We currently have 19 foreign players, that is not including Echeverri and Reis who are under 21 and don't count within the numbers in a PL squad.

We can only have 17 foreign players within a Premier league squad.

We still need a right back, too.

There's a list of ageing players (Gundog, Stones etc) & players who evidently have no future at the Ethad (McAtee, Grealish etc) who we need to jettison. Any incomings now rely on those players being culled.

The issue is that when push comes to shove, Pep will fall back on his tried & tested treble winners. We should've started our succession planning in the immediate aftermath of that incredible feat.

However, we spent the next two summer & winter windows tinkering around the edges, as Guardiola continued to put his faith in his treble squad having enough to go again, when the signs were clearly there that our squad needed to evolve.

All it took was for Rodri's body to break & the wheels fell off our season. Stones, Gundog & others have stated it's their intention to remain at the Etihad this coming season. The question is, in whose best long-term interest is that in?

At some point we have to trust & put our efforts into blooding Gonzalez, O'Reilly, Lewis, Reis, Khusanov, Bobb, Echeverri etc. My fear is that Pep will patch up & send out Gundog, Kovacic & Stones etc, at the expense of our new younger recruits.

At best, most of them will be on the bench, not even make the matchday squad, or be sent out on loan. It's such a waste. The old guard are essentially blocking the new recruit's path to regular first team football by slurping up valuable squad places. This is the reason our squad is bloated.

Can you make sense of why we've bought all these players, & still haven't moved on the players they were presumably brought in to replace? I can't...

If they stay pep has to be ruthless and let them stay at home. Otherwise they won’t get it. The club shouldn’t forget that there‘s a World Cup soon. The players will want to play.
