General UFC thread

Embarrassing from Rousey. Looked stiff with zero head movement. Got lit up like a Christmas tree. She needs to retire as the quality of opponents has evolved and she just can't steam roller them like she used to.

Rousey did a great job in helping put women's sport on the map in general, but particularly MMA/fight side of things, and what she achieved has put women's sport in the spotlight a lot more across the board.

However she was never the best, and once you a) make it a career opportunity for other fighters and b) put a target on your back, those who are better than you but have never had the platform now get the chance and they've put her on her arse as she's been swallowed by the limelight.

Think she needs to go off and capitalise on her fame in films/wrestling now because she's only going to do damage trying to compete in the arena she helped create, but now has been firmly taken away from her.

Rousey's team and hangers-on are cashing in on her, and she either needs to realise that and bin it, or just accept that that's her career now and make the most of it with the least punishment possible. Think she needs to accept she has a very lucrative Lesnar style career waiting for her on the other side and that she doesn't need the UFC anymore, and that they are only going to cash in on her losing to better fighters or giving her mickey-mouse contests that damage her standing still further.

Never looked at this thread before buts it Queensbury rules for me I just don't see the entertainment in two guys struggling on the floor.
Fair enough pal, if you enjoy boxing then why watch anything else?

I love boxing, I trained in boxing before my switch to kick boxing in my teens.

Boxing has its rules. These rules don't apply in the real world.
This is why its such a beautiful art to watch and you'll see many former professional boxers now in MMA who have gained skills in other Martial Arts and include boxing styles in their game plan.

I'll be honest, my money is on the well groomed boxer who has also been taught BJJ to win the fight over say the guy who has a black belt in BJJ (a submission/grappling art)

As for your comment "two guys struggling on the floor"
This is how you see it as you haven't rolled on a mat yourself, and haven't learnt about transitioning and submission offense/defense.

My advice is to go on YouTube and look at this channel - Jiu Jitsu Brotherhood.

Here you'll find many videos highlighting whats really going on on the ground.

To suggest someone like Royce Gracie/BJ Penn was on the floor "struggling" is just a complete disrespectful comment to make as they welcomed ground control and preferred to take fights to the ground.

But yes, watch that YouTube channel pal, the guys who do those videos want everyday people like yourself to learn the true martial arts you may see in UFC.

Oh and you'll find the art of wrestling originated quite closer to around here in Lancashire, UK.

I've learnt many styles of boxing, I'm quick with my hands, decent kick boxing as well but I don't have that one key ingredient - knock out power.
So what am I supposed to do?
I find it much more enjoyable sweeping and taking someone to the ground and putting them to sleep.
Their reaction when they wake up is pure art form [emoji27]

Decent post pal.
Ronda has contributed significantly to the sport but the standard now has increased so much she needs to step away from the octagon or if she wants to continue to compete then maybe fight lower level opponents rather than top level title contenders.

Nunez and many other females are now being invited into top level MMA training academies and will be sparring with professional males on a daily basis.
This will improve them dramatically, just as it does for the MCFC female team at the CFA.

There's a good few females coming out of Europe and wouldn't be surprised to see that belt over here in the next ten years as right now in amateur MMA competitions more girls are entering here in Britain.

Ronda's got what she went in the ring for last night money money never in a million years did she went for anything else. the other girl was hungry and wanted it more than money. am not saying its wrong and if anybody else in her shoes would do the same thing and making your money when you can is key to UFC its so fast and your peak is short and sometimes your in and out so fast and 1 slip or mistake you end up most of the times losing

UFC is a very hard sport and not many can fight bunch kick knee wrestle all in one sport and come of smelling of roses

Name one who has smelt of roses?
Haha.

People I've admired and to me have been 'perfect' such as Anderson Silva have ended up making a simple mistakes such as a slight slip and before you know it - broken knee.

Its what makes the sport so great though as anything can happen.
As they say - Don't Blink.

And you are right, Nunez wanted it for far more reasons other than a pay cheque

hahahaha sorry smell of roses is a quote used to say lucky

Ronda's coach should never train anyone ever again.

He's Travis's coach too isn't he? Made him go backwards as a fighter too. All I've ever heard him do is shout, scream and get into post-match altercations, doesn't seem to do much by way of coaching.

Mayweathers camp say they've offered McGregor $15m for a Boxing match.

McGregor tweeted this saying he's CJ Watson - the guy who slept with Mayweathers wife.

Shots fired.
