General Videogame Thread

FIFA 23 was only 18 quid on the PS4 so took a nibble for the first time in years. Got a career going with Stockport and I am shipping goals. Started off on world class and had to move down a level, still getting pummelled.

Does anyone know where is the best pre-order price for Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom? Tried to get Currys deal last week £44.99 but their website kept crashing. Cheers

Hit.co.uk

Can't find that offer matched by anyone else and most are over £50.

Make sure to pick up Nintendo 1st party titles as physical, as they will hold their value for trade-ins. Especially the big hitters like Zelda.

Looking forward to playing the new Star Wars later!
Was going to get it today but going to leave it for a couple of weeks as the game is having major performance issues on pc and consoles.

Huge frame rate drops, crashes, audio sync issues and loads of bugs

Even a 127GB patch this morning still hasn't resolved the issues. Apparently it's unplayable on pc.

When it does work though is supposed to be brilliant

I'm on Xbox so hopefully it'll be okay. I just had a quick search after reading your post and it all seems to be about issues on PC.

127GB.... Ridiculous.

That's not a patch that's just a whole new build.

Will be interesting to keep tabs on this in a technical sense. A lot of newer games have had some dodgy PC versions and people are starting to wonder if there's a link between the last console generation (PS4/XB1) ending and games only being built for the PS5 and Xbox Series now struggling on PC.

The step up from the likes of the PS4 to a PS5 is massive in so many ways (CPU, VRAM, the storage speed aka the SSD etc) that it's harder for PCs to brute force their way through games.

Well I know that my laptop is starting to show it's age and can't play the latest games but at first I really struggled to see the difference between PS4 and PS5, whereas my good old GTX 1060 did the job fine, if you don't get hung up on framerate too much.

But like with HD footy I guess, you notice most when you go back to the previous gen most. Games I was in awe of on PS4 now feel closer to the PS3 in terms of graphics and definition, than PS5.

You'd never get a new PC of similar spec for PS5 money either, and I can see PC gaming becoming even more so for the hobbyists in the future. But it hugely bothers me that Sony are already apparently talking about the PS6, so who knows what the best bet to future proof is...

Jedi Survivor is why i'm considering buying it on PS5 over PC. I know PC is superior in hardware but new releases are always plagued with problems. Happens far too frequently even with high-end rigs which are now circa £2k+

It didn't run great for me. That's on 5800x with a 4080. Devs really don't seem to give a toss any more. Throw out some shite and 'fix' it later. Oddly a mate with a very similar setup had no problems. It's random.

AAA is all so identikit these day's that they all just blend into one. Look at this Redfall for example, generic shite with garbage performance on PC.

I'd say it's evens that Starfield will be a massive dud on arrival.

Oof, Bethesda continues it’s streak of publishing abysmal games, even managing to doom an otherwise esteemed developer like Arcane (almost universally revered for putting out the likes of Dishonored, Prey, and Deathloop, all of which I enjoyed) to making what is being reviewed as a dull, lifeless, bug-filled, mess of a experience in Redfall.

Doesn’t bode well for Starfield at all, unfortunately.

I have been a massive Bethesda fan up until recently, but they’re on their last leg at this point. If their ‘Skyrim in Space’ game is as bad as Fallout 76, I think they may be done as a AAA game company. No one is going to wait for Elder Scrolls 6, which seems years away now.

Which would make Microsoft’s pricey acquisition quite a blunder (I would wager some of Bethesda’s recent issues likely originate in Microsoft owning them).
