General Videogame Thread

I think Rockstar got the Realism vs Fun balance wrong. It's a beautifully crafted world but there are a lot of things that are counter-intuitive and get very annoying after a few hours game time. The controls are clunky, the animations for looting or skinning get so tedious fast, progress is painfully slow at times to the point it feels like doing chores rather than playing a game and there are some annoying bugs which is to be expected with a game of this size. I may be in the vast minority with my opinion but I don't think this is the triumph everyone is claiming it to be.

It does, IMO.

Spent all weekend on it, and it is just so so slow. Get sidetracked en route to a mission and that's another hour lost. Travelling to places just takes so very very long unless you flog your horse to death.

It's obviously beautiful, a technical marvel, but honestly hasn't blown me away in the way I wanted it to, or in the way RDR1 did.

I'm a sad cowboy :(
Get rid of your Blackpool Donkey and get yourself a Thoroughbred ;-)

Granted I haven't managed to play a lot or get very far with it but I actually don't mind the slow nature of it.........(kind of makes it feel more like a film).

I completely agree with the getting side-tracked thing though, I imagine it is a ploy for the storyline to feel longer.

All that being said, I still really like Be here now ;-)

Genuine question - is it to try and tap in to those gamer audiences for stuff like Farmer simulators and that kind of sh1te (never played one I'm just making a large assumption)?

Agree.

After I

killed all those O'Driscoll's where the money was stashed in the chimney

I had about 20 bodies to loot, and it genuinely took nearly half an hour - you have to be stood in exactly the right spot, then hold triangle while he flips them over, lifts them slightly, roots through pockets and you get each bit of loot INDIVIDUALLY.

I've stopped looting bodies now because it's a PITA

Im loving it so far, but feel they have gone a little bit over board with some of the features. Like others have said the controls can be a bit clunky, but one thing I do like is the fact you can just lose hours on your way to do a mission. Last night got side tracked twice and didnt even end up doing the mission.

On a side note does anyone know what i'm supposed to do with animal skin? I had a legendary bear skin, no idea how to sell it no idea where to store it so I put it down in camp thinking it would still be there when I got back and it disappeared. Quite annoying.

I actually like the slow nature of it. I also like having so much to do off mission. I never complete the GTA games because I just get bored doing mission after mission to advance the story. I'm glad that you can enjoy and explore the game without relying on missions.

Agree the controls are clunky and too time consuming. The looting process is a stupid idea given how many bodies pile up.

Definitely recommend investing time and money into your horse for the speed and stamina gains, makes a huge difference.

You sell them to the trapper in Saint Denis. Wouldn't worry tho because you can only kill a legendary Animal once I'm pretty certain it counts. Go see him you should be able to craft items.

Ye there should be skills to unlock that auto loot bodies and animals it's annoying. As for a horse I believe the best horse in the game is a white Arabian horse near Lake Isabella.

I read that online but my Bear skin had already disappeared by this point so I don't know what to do now? Or do you mean the trapper will be able to register that I have already killed the bear?

When you consider its over 100 hours of entertainment it is far cheaper than £50 for an hour and a half of football or £15 for a cinema ticket.
You've summarised perfectly why I love video games, incredible value for the amount of time I'll play a single title.
Clocked in over 150 hours on f1 2017 and paid £20 on sale for it.
That's about 15p per hour of entertainment

No man's sky has had another big update today, really looking forward to trying it when I get home from work.
Fair play to the Devs for not leaving the game to rot, it's made a great comeback from its original awful release

Is it worth another try on it? I was incredibly bored when i played it and just traded it in after about 3 or 4 days of playing it. What are the main changes?

It got a massive update in the summer called NEXT and has had another update today called Abyss.
Here are the patch notes for today's updates:

I can understand why it might not be everyone's cup of tea but I have found myself playing it plenty since I got it two weeks ago for £20 on PC

I like the slow pace of it too. Instead of trying to rush through missions, I’m trying to complete each one with Gold rating. I’ve got one gold so far, so it’s pretty challenging. I haven’t even got to terms with crafting yet. I’ve been to busy fucking around killing animals.
