General Videogame Thread

Asteroids-- Early 80s, loved that game, used to get top scores wherever I went,I even found a retro game site online with it on about 10 years ago. After a few days getting back into it I rocked the sites top score by double, about 15 million if I remember corectly, had my comp running for 4 days to do that, even then it wasnt game over, think comp crashed or I shut down by accident.
Mariokart,goldeneye--mainly with the kids on N64,did the whole screen splitter thing, fantastic fun,and endless play with time trials etc. That console had some superbly playable titles and was my last console before switch to pc.
Age of Empires franchise--this game was the first on PC to really capture my imagination.Ended up playing a lot online at rook/grook level and found a decent bunch to play against. My son was a top top player and could get games with the worlds best on both 2 and 3.
Fallout New Vegas----my first taste of that franchise as three would not play on my pc,cracking game.
CoD,MW3--my button mashing days ended long ago but found some really good crouch only servers online and had some brilliant fun, dont know why but its the only CoD I have played.
Fallout 4--my most hours in a game according to my steam library and I have nowhere near completed it!! I spend my time building settlements, with no mods,on survival mode, and always permadeath(one life only),that makes you so careful and adds a sense of danger that raises the game a level imo. I make my own story as the game can be a brilliant post apocalyptic survival challenge if you ignore the story. One day I will complete it as it drives my son mad that I havent.
Banished--colonnial sim city developed by a single person apparently, and plenty of mods to go at, I love it.
The Long Dark---Sadly I havent seen this one mentioned on this thread, bought this in development in about 2015 and they are still releasing new content now!! Totally ruthless survival in post apocalytic Canada, charming graphics and thought provoking gameplay.Slow moving I suppose, but it does grip you to want to survive at any cost especially as you have one life only and a wrong decision/mistake will kill you. Also, there is no objective other than to stay alive, and the only ending is your death,I keep going back to it and it never dissapoints , its been my goto game during lockdown.
There have been countless other games and I have Witcher3 and Kingdom Come ready to play on my steam account, plus money in my steamwallet waiting for the right game.So glad that I embraced computer gaming, its been great fun over the years and even now I really enjoy it and I have only sampled a small percentage of games.
I certainly got lost in fallout4, and AOE. I loved those games and civilisation.
I remember the days when you couldn't admit you liked playing computer games, it was seen as childish or not manly whatever. So much better nowadays

It's now a $150 billion industry. Money makes people sit up, take notice and give respect. Hollywood actors are providing their voices and likeness, and some even have gaming channels or collaborated with players on YouTube. Those days are definitely over ;)

Banished is a cracking wee game. I like the challenge and simplicity of it.

If you like that title, I would highly recommend Frostpunk or Anno 1400/1800.

Unsure if previously mentioned but you can update your XBOX Gold membership to Ultimate Gold for a pound through the Microsoft. So if you have around 10 months of Gold left you pay a pound for an upgrade to ultimate but the system allows you to have an upgrade for all your unspent months too up a to a maximum of 36 months. The ultimate for those not in the know is Gold and the games package combined and quite frankly this has to be a no brainer. Just done it tonight and works an absolute treat. So that's 2 X Boxes in sync able to enjoy 10 months of X Box Ultimate for only a pound.

Don't have an Xbox but that is an amazing offer.

Anyone play DCS on here? I have flight simmed for years but fuck me, the systems on these warbirds and the learning curve is brutal. Great fun though

I'm deep into the FF7 remake now, and honestly i'm blown away by it. The original was one of my favourite games of all time, and i'm astounded that they've actually got this right and not fucked it up. They've actually improved some parts of the game i'd argue! Gutted it's only a tiny fraction of the game admittedly, but still. So fucking good.

It's true mate. My dad used to watch us play on the speccy and he would occasionally play, but he would say he's too old for games. When I said I'd play at his age he laughed and thought I was crackers. Low and behold I still game a tiny bit but not like the mad 18 hour sessions I had in the teens and twenties

What's this on mate? I always thought Midgar would be like living in Sheffield or Liverpool

Downloaded starwars battlefront 2. Boring, generic shooter with no variation. Havent given multiplayer a go yet.
just run shoot and die like all other FPS multiplayer, but it looks and sounds fantastic, its star wars and freee, stop moaning.

Have you played SW BF2 online? What is it like?

I played the 1st SWBF on PS4 when it was released and quite enjoyed it, the follow up seemed a bit overwhelming and EA had bad press over in game currency etc.
