Got a first hands on the new Series X this morning. Feels massively underwhelming and glad I wasn't able to get a pre order. Definitely waiting for the next fully next gen titles before buying one. Just seems pointless at the moment

Can I ask why you feel underwhelmed?

Had mine for nearly a week now and I love mine.

Loading times are great and quick resume is brilliant.

Auto HDR makes even old games like Fallout New Vegas look great and Smart Delivery is really useful if you have a slow internet speed.

The main criticisms I've seen is that the UI and controller are the same but if it ain't broke don't fix it. Plus it's great just to use old accessories on the unit without having to buy new ones.

The lack of a killer exclusive is the biggest one though which is a fair comment but exclusives are coming. Plus game pass is absolutely the best deal in gaming at the minute

Can't put my finger on it. Maybe because in the past I've gone from quite old hardware to new. Went from 360 to One X last time and it was night and day. N64 to Ps2 the time before. Guess it's just not like that anymore. Plus I'm not really that arsed if the same games are just a tad more polished. Although you saying that about Fallout is fantastic and something I haven't seen yet.

The quick resume is great but it's not something I'd use as if I'm gaming I never have two on the go at the same time, same with load times. I've grown up with them so as nice as the Ssd ones are it's something I can live without.

Don't know. Maybe I just have absurd expectations. An ex girlfriend once said the same thing.

Plus I'm making assumptions on a quick half hour fuck around on one. If I had one here it might be different.

Fair enough

There isnt a huge leap in graphics yet this generation as 4K is pretty much it for the next few years. 8K is available but very expensive. I think the biggest thing is stuff like a constant 60FPS at 4K and games even running at 120FPS which is unheard of in consoles. will take time for the Devs but I would imagine games in the future will look spectacular and consoles like the series x the spec is as close to PC's now as its even been. Would be interesting to see how much a PC would cost to build with the Series X specs.

EDIT: just had a look and your looking at between £650-£1000 WITHOUT a monitor for a PC to have equivalent specs

I remember loading up Mario 64 on the N64 for the first time after coming from a Megadrive and just thinking "WOW" this is the future!

I wasn't expecting that with The Series X, Its more about performance and the features like quick resume and smart delivery making games run faster and more accessible

Managed to get a series X from Very today, coming on Thursday with a ps5. I’ll be flogging that as Gamepass has sold me to move to Xbox this gen

Sank about 15 hours into AC Valhalla now and whilst I think it looks absolutely stunning in 4k on the Xbox Series X, the game itself is a total mess.

The story/plot is largely awful, the writing and voice acting is all over the place, combined with mind numbing tasks that you have to do to rank up your power to continue the story.

The game is full of bugs, when in raids your comrades disappear, you can't open doors as you need companions and then you won't be able to claim the loot. That's before you randomly sinking through the floor.

I personally loved Odyssey, this to me is a massive fuck up so far. I'll be finishing and selling it asap

Which is the best Assassin's creed?

There are loads which generally all look good and based in interesting time periods / locations.

If you had to choose just the one........

I really enjoyed syndicate having lived in London. Quite liked the era it was set in but found it repetitive 15 hours in which put me off the series.

i am playing black flag at the mo one of the best games ever
Two is generally seen as AC in its pomp and it very much laid the groundwork for the series’ success. Graphics/combat may seem dated but they have remastered it (visually).

I also don’t think it got the credit it deserved due to Ubisoft delivering some lacklustre titles over the last few years. Personally, I’ve enjoyed them all, flaws and all. I've seen lists of the best open world games but ACII seems to get pushed aside.

Number 2, set in Renaissance Italy. Though, it did come out about a decade ago now.
That was a good game, I was about halfway through the single player campaign when I discovered multiplayer contracts mode, was addicted for a while, never went back to the campaign!

EDIT: Got confused with Brotherhood, still great though!

Played the demo of Ori and the blind forrest last night on Switch, Excellent stuff so far. the level of emotion they managed to pack into an intro level is Pixar'esque

For someone who hasn't touched a video game since Pitfall in the 80's, is this new X Box worth the money? The 14 year old step son wants one and the missus is finding it hard to get one. Is it worth going the extra mile?

Seen so many who absolutely love it on Twitter... edit - they've cited a kinda BOTW influence in terms of the sense of exploration, and from what I can recall I don't think you were a fan of that either so maybe its a personal preference thing.

If you want to PM me your selling price I’ll happily consider taking it off you as soon as you get your hands on it, is it the disk version? Happy to collect in north west.

Feel the same. There's just something about it that feels off and I'm not sure why that is.

Haven't got invested in the story and like you said its full of bugs. I was climbing a mountain in Norway and I mistakenly called for my horse and it got stuck in the mountain and there was no way to get rid of him. I had to reload a save 50 minutes earlier and I lost all my progress.

Been in England for about an hour and its a bit better but not by much. The lip syncing and accents are awful.

Like you said it looks great in 4K on a Series X. Ill give it a few more hours before binning it off.

On a side note Ive been playing Planet Coaster on the Series X and its brilliant. The amount of depth you can go into is staggering and its just great fun building ridiculous Roller Coasters!!
