General Videogame Thread

Looks like the final nail in the coffin for Google Stadia was hammered in by Microsoft today.

Game pass ultimate games is now available to stream on iOS, Android and Windows 10 devices.

Anyone with a game pass subscription can stream and I've just been messing around on it with my pc and it runs absolutely flawlessly.

You'll need at least 25mb internet speed and they steam off Xbox series X servers so if you have a 4K monitor you'll get 4k. I've got a 1440p monitor and it looks great. Loading times for the games is around 10 seconds and any saved games you have on your console will automatically be available for streaming. It's very impressive.

This means even if you don't have an Xbox console you can subscribe to game pass and play the games. Almost every game on game pass is available to play. You just need an Xbox controller
Interesting, I tried out Stadia and it was ok. But it was not even up to the GEforce Now, which is a much more evolved experience with more games when it comes to cloud. They're not really a direct comparison as you can play PC games using Nvidia's platform, but if MS have a stable service i think this could be a real change in gaming. Nvidia deliver ray tracing at 1080p (upscale to 4k on the newer versions of Shield i think) so it will be interesting to see how the Xbox service compares. I don't have an Xbox controller or i'd give it a go.

Technically ray tracing is possible streaming as its uses the xbox series X servers and Azure cloud so there is a lot of power behind it. Microsoft are looking next though as it being an app on Tv's so you don't even need a console just a decent internet speed and a controller. You can pick up a decent(non-Offical) Xbox controller for about a tenner and first 3 months subscription is £1 so there's nothing to lose really. Every single xbox exclusive game is on there plus all Bethesda games

EDIT

Just found out games are currently running 60FPS @ 1080P. As technically its still in beta. 4k ray tracing etc won't be available until the end of the year ad Microsoft want to make sure the service is stable first

Nvidia use their own cloud and obviously have a lot of experience with graphic processors, but MS are well developed in cloud computing as you say. IIRC you can download the GEForce Now app on Android tv's (maybe even LG's service) and connect your controller and go. I have played it on my tablet, and also my phone but it's a bit of a shit experience with a small screen of course. Nvidia were in Beta for a couple years at least, i'm a founding member so have seen it evolve (actually devolve a little as MS and Sony forced developers to leave Nvidia's service) and it's been overally pretty stable. I think MS might take it to the next level, pretty excited to see how it develops.

Star Wars jedi: Fallen Order is on offer on PS at the moment for about £13 with a free PS5 version upgrade, quite tempted by it. Anyone played it?

yes it's very good, although i gave up playing it after a while due to not being able to complete a mission (had a wobble over it)

Might pick it up again now for my digital PS5

Ah i see. I do find it a bit annoying that if you buy disc versions, you don't get the free PS5 upgrades..
?

is that true? do you have any links? thought you got the upgrade if you owned the game?

was about to buy doom eternal as that is getting patched this week.

this says PS4 disks upgrade to PS5 versions OK as long as its the same region.

you do if you already have the game

No as PC game pass has different games than console gamepass but is included in gamepass ultimate

Just click on this link https://www.xbox.com/en-GB/play

If your not a member of gamepass if you shop around you can get the first month for a £1.

If fact just found this on xbox.com. You can get the first 3 months for £1. That s great deal really

If you plan on getting Xbox live anyway the best thing to do is buy the 12 month cards (from Cd keys etc) use 3 to get upto a maximum 3 years of xbox live (you can't have more than 3 years); then do the 1 month for a £1 gamepass offer. You'll end up with 22 months gamepass for the price of xbox live.

I think i confused myself. So it says if you have the ps4 disc and buy the ps5 disc version then you get the ps5 version free, whereas if you go the digital ps5 version then obviously you can't do fuck all with the ps4 disc you have so you gotta buy it. Must have read it wrong.

Yeah, but i guess you would pay for premium for a disc PS5 version whereas its a free upgrade (i believe) if you have the digital copy.

thats correct mate yeah.

I actually wanted teh disc ps5 version, was told it was out of stock on release date.

Government back in lockdown and people didn't pay up, offered a disc version but had already spent the money on the digital.

Has it perks, less space being used up, my son has the ps4 now.

only downside is I can't trade in games now
