General Videogame Thread

Elden ring well I’ve done a few more hours and bloody hell it’s frustratingly good, so much to see and fight, now getting a bit more powerful and getting further in I can see me sinking ungodly hours into this. Finding secret places just by exploring is so satisfying, I went into a temple down a shaft and found a completely different area which was stunning to look at.

Take Two had a earnings call yesterday.

They confirmed GTA VI WILL definitely launch on 19th November.

A new trailer and marketing will start end of June and gameplay videos will drop in September.

They said production costs so far have been just under $1.5B however in the first year of launch they are expecting to make around $8B making it comfortably the most profitable single media entity of all time

I'm increasinlgy 'meh' about GTA VI now, it's been way, way, way too long of a release to matter.

Probably be around 600GB download, 1st day patch will be a further 200GB, will likely cost £150, with the scalpers having a field day with physical copies, and day one, the website will be overloaded with digital downloads. Gameplay will be no different to 'Five' with no real innovations justifying the hype, the story bland with dull protagonists..

It'll just be 'another GTA game', and I love the damn things. RDR2 blew me away in terms of gameplay, narrative and experience, but i'm really not fussed that the horses shit and dead bodies rot in that game, that's not why I bought it. Same with this; it's just another GTA game, but all the hype surrounding it makes me feel it's going to build up to a thorougly unpleasant experience, and it mostly won't be due to anything about the game features itself.

This is what Strauss said:

"I've been asked by investors whether we need to spend marketing dollars given the scale of the intellectual property and its reach and the sentiment," he says. "And the answer is of course we need to market it." We should expect "a very significant broad based marketing campaign that reflects where audiences and attention is today," which is to say it won't resemble the approach taken for GTA 5 back in 2013. "13 years ago we were still buying network television. We won't be buying a lot of network television."

This was interesting, makes a lot of sense and explains why it has been really quiet recently.
They don't really need to go mental on marketing in the classic sense

It looks amazing, but the success of Crimson Desert has kind of trumped GTA VI in terms of massive open world game and i think taken some of the hype away. That being said, ill still be all over it. I reckon £100 for the game and no doubt in the first month it will be patched to fuck whilst they fix all the bugs so endless massive updates.

I've long thought that gta 6 will be a very average game, or as average it can be with a $2billion cost.

Rockstars gameplay is stuck in the past, it was never at the top of the tree in that regard anyway but the world they were set in made up for it and more.

We are now in a world where there are plenty of games that have gone bigger and more dense than what gta 6 is expected to be so it cannot rely on the world as much as it once did which means the core gameplay, namely the shooting and driving, need to substantially improve and I don't think they'll do that.

It's still going to be the biggest piece of entertainment media in history and I'm sure it'll be praised none stop and win every award going and make billions for the next decade and beyond but when the dust settles, I can see a lot of opinions switching from "this is the greatest game ever" to "probably not even the best game that year"

Crimson Desert is the typical middle of nowhere countryside setting though isn't it?

It doesn't interest me anywhere close to a fully functioning modern city. Has any game even beaten Los Santos in GTA 5 for best modern city?

Playing Elden Ring, holy crap it’s frustrating but what a beautiful game, it’s stunning to look at, there is so much to it,I’ve nit even scratched the surface, unfortunately my reaction timing is crap and I’m constantly dying, it’s a pity there isn’t an easy mode because I’d love to play it all bit not waste 10 years of my life on it.

Stick with it, it just clicks after a bit. Then play Bloodborne.

Finally played RE Requiem. What a fucking game. On my second run through. Superb.

Never clicked with the GTA franchise, but I’ve got around 13,000 hours into RDR2 between my two accounts. I’ll never understand why they abandoned that game.

I’m addicted to it pal I can’t stop playing it, what a game probably one of the best I’ve ever played, now I’m powered up a bit going back and defeating things is so satisfying. The only thing I find is I have no idea about the quests I’ve had to google them as there are very few markers what to do and as I wander round for hours I forget what I’ve been told :)

I found pen and paper to be very helpful. It's an amazing playground to just build your own story. I bought it my Mrs and it sat on a shelf for a couple of years as I was put off playing it as she couldn't get to grips with it and she is far and beyond the gamer I am. Picked up Bloodborne and was addicted to dying from the first death. Smashed Elden Ring then did all the Souls games. Not many feelings like finally fucking that boss on the 421st try.

The Elden Ring DLC is the best DLC ever released for a game.

Money. GTA online is bloody insane when you look at the revenue stream it generates. No wonder 6 has taken so long. They'd happily just update online forever.

Yeah they absolutely wrecked RDO. Not sure how, but clearly didn’t think development through and it all fell apart in the first couple of years. I read an interview in which a dev stated that they’d gotten the economy wrong. I guess players just don’t need to buy the in game currency. RDR2 itself sold very well. Well, hopefully they make a sequel.

Correct. I also think you have two different sets of gamers for each game. GTA your average 12 year old is going to pump money into it for random flying cars, RDR seems to be for the older gamer who's going to spend the grand total of fuck all once they've spent their 70 quid to play it.

RDR2 is free on PlayStation Plus this month as well.

Huge 80% off on Resident Evil games on steam right now. Just got myself the Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes for a few quid.

(Each game is cheaper than a pub pint at the moment)

At the last boss in Elden Ring now, what a bloody game, seems I’ve even missed big areas I’ve not discovered, I’ve hardly done any of the quests as it gives you very little help and I’ve missed loads of bosses! Hopefully beat the boss today and then I’m afraid you tube to complete some stuff but now I’ve locked certain areas out apparently I’ll have to play through again!

I see Malenia, Blade of Miquella in my sleep. I don't know how many times I died to her. 100? 200? 1000? I'm still not sure I beat her.
