General Videogame Thread

Been getting back into Fallout 4 in a big way. Just completed the main quest line but I have a ton of of side missions and faction quests to do. Its ridiculous the amount of content in the game. Also mods are released on the Xbox next week so looking forward to that and it will be interesting to see how they change the game

Got it on pre-order, I'm well looking forward to it, so far I've not found myself growing tired of it, I've never been a big FPS fan either but with this and DOOM to come my month is sorted for me.

Given it a go now. loved it for the first hour and was convinced i'll be getting it. Having played it a little bit more though, i'm still liking it but not entirely convinced anymore. The problem seems to be it isn't that fun to play when you're getting beat. I know that sounds like an obvious statement that can be attributed to all multiplayer games but because it's so well balanced in the main (there's a few characters that are slightly OP) when playing with randomers, it's very hard to make a difference on your own if the rest of your team is crap. If you have a good team or a group of mates to play it with i suspect it's going to be a very very good game.

I'm normally not a fan of vehicles on shooters, they are usually just used by dickheads who want to boost their k/d ratios, but WW1 vehicles were so rubbish I think the balance will be pretty good. Bi planes sound great fun, can't wait to shoot some down

When there was rumours of it being set in WW1 i like you had high hopes for a very well balanced multiplayer where tanks can be taken on by a lone skilled soldier because of their poor armour and maybe even have them factoring in the poor reliability of them at the time too. Likewise with aircraft, planes had only mounted machine guns that were incredibly difficult to use. However, after listening to the devs talk about it during the reveal i have a feeling that's not going to be the case, i think they'll act and play more like a WW2 take and will be a lot more powerful and useful than they actually were in real life.

Problem is because it's an open beta some people aren't really that fussed with it so just piss about.
I get pissed off when people don't work as a team, I've played 112 games so far and won about 54 but the games I've lost I've not really been angry at losing the games just more annoyed that my team have consisted of fucking useless cunts!

What I love about the game is that every selected team has a equal counter to them, you just have to know how to play each character..... There is a game mode on the open beta which throws you into a game and once your selected character dies you re-spawn as a random character, it's a good idea as it forces you to learn each characters abilities, weakness' and strengths.

Playing Far Cry Primal at the moment, can't recommend it enough. Didn't like Far Cry 4 but this is really good.. the Primeval setting makes a nice change.

Got Doom on Preorder. Hope it comes Thursday.. been playing the PSX ultimate Doom in anticipation

Are you playing it in survival mode? Completed the game quite quickly under normal modes
The owl and any tamed sabre tooth makes all missions piss
so would suggest survival to anyone who has not played or is only a few hours in. Would have made the game so much longer and immersive. Still would recommend it though 7/10

Not sure. Just automatic I think. I'm nearly 40% in at 20 hours. Games seem to take me ages! Need to get it done before Doom or I have a habit of not picking up where I left off if I have a new one on the go.

Great game have held off completing the main story but am thinking of going ahead as all side missions appear to be repeating in all but name.

Any new players be warned the tunes are addictive as hell and long playing sessions will have you humming the same songs in your head over and over.

This is the one that once stuck in there is a bastard to get out

If your owl is able to dive down and kill then it's in normal mode. Survival does things like consume resources on fast travel and you can't be completely shielded from the cold etc.

Worth completing so stick in there.

Can't disagree with any of that. Aside from the bits of horrendous lag which i fully expect will be ironed out for launch I was only getting pissed off with the rest of my idiot team but not the game itself. As you say the balancing is very well done and with a few little tweaks can be one of the most balanced games i've seen for years. It's great that one guy can be smashing everybody one minute so somebody on the other team switches to that characters counter character and suddenly the tides have turned. Not tried that mode yet, might have to give that a go as i have tended to stick with 2/3 characters so far. This game will live or die on the community and whether people play as a team.

Any recommendations for games for my 8 year old son (xbox 360). Most games seem to be cert 18 which really limits what he can get. I’m not really into it myself so I would not know if any of these cert 18 games are actually ok. So is there anything worth getting that is not cert 18 or any games that are worth a look? Minecraft is doing my nut in!!
Try the lego games, there are lots of them - pirates of the carribean and Harry Potter for instance. Easy to pick up, some of them have couch coop so you can join him, and challenging enough even for an adult.

Another good, quirky game is epic Mickley 2.

Of course, if you were evil enough you could get him dark souls!

Been tearing my hair out on Dark Souls 3, I find it almost impossible. Maybe I am too old. Think I will leave it now. Luckily I only pay 21 quid for my games.
Doom is on pre order as is Homefront. So hopefully they will keep me going for a while. Tried battleborn but just cant get into it.

Anyone else struggle on Dark Souls? Any tips for an old guy? lol

Fallout 4 been the game I spent the most time on over last year since it was released.

Played Dark souls 1 & 2 and the frustrated the he'll out of me got pretty far in both but got bored and passed off. You need to level up as high as u can pretty much before every boss fight. Won't be buying the 3rd. Just got Uncharted 4 and Doom should come Friday.

Cleared it twice on my 3rd play through, its about being patient reading the enemy attacks and when they are loads of enemies sussing out whether to leg it or take you time with one at a time.
