General Wrestling Thread

I've never really got into wrestling not in it's current format. Loved going live when I was a kid and watching it on ITV on a Saturday afternoon. I've probably seen every famous British wrestler from the 70s live. DK was only a skinny teenager when I saw him. See Dave boy Smith live too.
Les Kellett was my favourite as a kid, he always played the joker, but he was truly feared by every other wrestler on the circuit. A proper hard bastard who was incredibly strong, despite looking like a skinny armed, fat bellied middle aged man.

I could never get into the old British wrestling as it was too slow and based more on catch wrestling. Some of the British companies had a hookup with Stampede Wrestling in Canada which is how Dynamite/Davey Boy got into the American scene. Later double murderer Chris Benoit was a big fan of Dynamite and based much of his ring work around him.

I didn't have a choice. My old man hated football, I begged him to take me to Maine rd but he said football was too violent(it was in the middle of all the hooliganism)
He never saw the irony of taking me to every wrestling/boxing match within a 40 mile radius.
Saturday nights was always wrestling at Belle Vue, and a go on the water chute or the mad mouse on the way out. I had my first taste of beer in the Kings Hall during the interval, much to the disapproval of my mum.

Punk has done an Austin and just walked out of the company according to the dirtsheets.

Unhappy with Batista being given the rumble win and all the part timers ('taker, Lesnar, Rock etc) taking the top spots and paydays round mania season.

Can't say i blame him to be fair, even if its just a ploy to get a better spot and renewed push. It worked at MITB 2011 so worth another shot.

I honestly think it's a work.

Before he 'left' he was working an angle in which he believed he was being targeted by the authority because they think he's anti-establishment. Punk has been using twitter during this angle to draw further attention to the stuff we have seen on TV.

Most recently he has been picked on by Kane, who is siding with the authority and who more importantly, cost him a shot at Wrestlemania by eliminating him from the Royal Rumble, he was then chokeslammed through the Spanish announce table for his troubles.

Punk not showing the following night on RAW and now this news about him leaving fits in perfectly with not only the angle being worked, but also some of the deeper issues that some fans feel about the currect product.

Remember, Punk is meant to be the 'voice of the voiceless' and this whole walk out thing I think is to draw even more interest (on top of what is happening to Bryan) on the WWE in the run up to Wrestlemania and it is working a treat.

Bryan's lack of a place in the Rumble was covered by BBC news and the Punk Story has been covered by UK newspapers and digitalspy. I think he will be brought back to face Triple H as planned and along with Bryan (who will win the WWE title) will both have big nights at Wrestlemania.

If this video is pre-rumble as the dates suggests then absolutely yes.
