Nobody will go into a Breaking Bad thread and say "hahahaha, Walt doesn't really exist!!! You stupid bastards"
Yet people presume that about wrestling fans.
It's a TV program that is both entertaining within the "story" like a soap opera yet has some incredible athleticism, and I feel the most personal type of storytelling possible.
The wrestlers try to tell a mini story in every match. They control the live crowd and the pacing to produce something that is really excellent.
A good example, people say that they enjoyed Stone Cold Steve Austin. Why was this? I think it's because Austin was an anti-authority figure who told his boss to go fuck himself constantly and he was a ruthless fucker.
In the 50s people would have found this deplorable yet in that era it was "cool". wrestling taps into society unlike any other form of storytelling. People lived vicariously through Stone Cold and wanted to see him on the show.
Stone Cold existed because the WWF listened to the crowd reactions, saw that a "bad guy" was getting "good guy" reactions so shifted their storylines to suit it.
I love the sport, I really do. Nothing comes close in having the finger on the pulse of society and in long term storytelling with a genuine athleticism to it.
I enjoy watching people do incredible athletic acts. I enjoy watching people who interact with a live crowd (like a stand up). I enjoy a good storytelling source based over several episodes (like a drama series). I also enjoy hearing the behind the scenes gossip as it puts into perspective the physical sacrifice that is made for the entertainment of the fans.
I can't understand why people cannot like this but can like Eastenders.

Yes but then you wrestling geeks all talk about it 1. as if its real. 2. as if you all know the inner workings of everything. 3. you complain and moan about it so I don't know why you watch it.
Never seen anyone discuss Breaking Bad etc like the way you wrestling fans discuss every minute detail of wrestling. If a storyline went in a way someone didn't like they wouldn't woman about the way you wrestlefans talk about it.
Wrestling has been shit for over decade, don't know why so many watch it even though they complain its so shit.
I've also noticed wrestling fans are always very touchy and quick to defend it and talk about it in quite pretentious terms, possibly because they know its all a bit silly.
