That wouldn't work, mate, because land prices are typically much dearer in the South and they are a major determinant of new house prices.
Why? because more people want to live and work in the South. Like it or not (probably not!), supply and demand are at the root of the economy.
They're building all over the fcukin green spaces down here. It's hammering the environment, straining the infrastructure and it's not nice to see. One village near me has a population of 2,500 and they are trying to build 2,000 new homes there. That would roughly treble the population and kill its character.
