CB... I have to disagree..He’s by far the best Genesis option and has been for at least the last 20 years or more.
The last official tour was a sad spectacle and that 2007 tour, which I saw on a wet night in Manchester was a bit sub-par too tbh. A set list that didn’t do their past justice fully, and the playing and singing was a step down from their glorious best. I saw a bit of that last night and lasted about 3 mins before finding the Mama tour show from the NEC 84 and the 3 sides live 81 show at Nassau. The differences are just so apparent.
Hackett on the other hand was and still is putting on fabulous shows; highly recommended.
I saw them in Edinburgh doing that '1973 tour. I liked them and thought they were quite clever but honestly preferred Steve Hackett on his various tours. He still has got it and has a fantastic band if you can take to Nad (the vocalist) who without doing a PG impression manages to capture the essence of early Genesis (some folk really dont like him though).CB... I have to disagree..
And I may be wrong......
I saw The Musical Box,a Canadian tribute band,in Wolverhampton
at Wolverhampton Civic Hall, they were Outstanding ... the gig I went to, was based upon the Genesis 1973 tour...which they played ,back then, at the same venue. It was authentic. Ending In an uprising version of suppers ready, which was a sensational end to the gig...absolutely tore the house down. I'll never forget it.ever.
The Musical Box played again on their tour at Nottingham. I got tickets brought for me and a mate by a client of mine ,at the time
It was a completely different gig.id deliberately selected Wolverhampton Civic Hall cos I knew 73 genesis played there....the Notts gig ( at the roysl concdrt hall )was, imo flat..... The Wolverhampton gig , was genuinely, one of the best nights of my life.
Having never seen the real Genesis, and being lucky enough to see an interpretation of the UK 1973 tour .
The MB at the time were acclaimed by no other than Peter Gabriel..
The video appears to have been made at least two years ago because he says that he's 71, he's 74 next January.I wasn't expecting a two plus documentary, but a great deal of that was talking heads.
A very good watch, and a must for any Genesis fan. Watching his son improve even more in the last year, was good. I thought his playing (on clips I've seen of The Last Domino tour) was a little stilted, but the clips on this doc shows his improvement.
The only downpoints were to see his health deterioration get worse. He even sounds worse in his speaking voice......... and obviously the lack of thawing in his relationship with Chester Thompson. Very sad. The two together were incredible
