I'm going to say something unpopular here but I don't see why Suffolk Police have felt the need to go on the defensive over this. People are stopped up and down the country driving their cars for license checks and whatever, it's how a lot of vehicle crime is detected. Otherwise what's the point in sitting a driving test and going through that whole process if nobody is ever going to enforce it anyway?
If, as the officers suggest, the occupants of the car were continually glancing over at the Police then yeah, its reasonable to suggest that might make them a bit suspicious, no? In any case, a very quick licence check and they'd have been on their way - no issues and probably told to enjoy their day.
The comments about jumping on the bandwagon were in poor taste and worthy of criticism, but it seems like they've been drawn in to an argument because the occupants have immediately went on the defensive and played the racial profiling card when it's simply not the case.
Spot checks happen up and down the country, if you have a licence, insurance etc then there's absolutely nothing to worry about. I'd rather get stopped a few times in the mindset that our roads are as safe as possible for everyone to drive on, as opposed to not stopping and engaging with people and the inevitable free for all which arises.
Sorry if people disagree, but just saying it how I see it. So longs the Police stop you and engage in a courteous manner whilst getting the stop check dealt with as quickly as possible so that road users can go ahead and enjoy the rest of their day then I don't see the problem.
