Woke up, picked up my phone (as you do, habit etc) and quite literally the first thing I saw on Twitter this morning was that absolutely sickening video of the old fella left bleeding on the floor. Made my stomach sink. It's quite difficult to handle the lack of humanity that early on. It's difficult at any time, but fuck me... made me want to go back to bed and not wake up for weeks.

One bloke did instinctively go and try to help him, but was immediately told not to and pushed away. What the actual fuck? The world really is a totally fucking messed up place at the moment. It feels like every hour we're reading about some new incredibly inhumane or disgusting actions.

There are too many to register mentally, that one with the lass being hammered with batons sticks in my mind too. It's fairly obvious these police have been given free reign and it's shocking and it needs sorting.

As I was being arrested for my second day in a row during peaceful protests in support of Black Lives Matter, I decided to continue taking photos until the moment right before handcuffs were put on me. Very risky, but a necessary move to expose LAPD's entirely inexcusable use of aggressive force, especially in the moments before mass arrests of peaceful protestors.

As we were being boxed in on Broadway & 5th Street to be arrested, LAPD decided that a completely unarmed homeless man in a wheelchair that had NOTHING to do with our protest was somehow a threat. They proceeded to inappropriately shoot "non-lethal" rounds directly at his face, which is against the proper procedure for firing rubber bullets.

The last image is exceptionally heart-breaking for me as you can visibly see the homeless man writhing in pain, screaming, as he spews blood from his face moments after getting shot.

When people want to be apathetic or inactive in fighting against police brutality against black individuals, make them realize this trickles over & can affect them or someone they love too, regardless if they're black or not
.

Is there any other country in the so called Western world with a gun culture like America?

Im not saying I agree or disagree with anyone in particular in today’s debate about slavery and the roots of racism, but I honestly don’t think America will solve their problems with large portions of certain communities tooled up, so to speak.
I absolutely could not live in a society where gun ownership is seen as a right and it is so easy to get one.

I firmly believe it bears a sizeable portion of the blame for much of their societal problems.

It definitely does. In the US it is a cultural and societal problem pushed by the fact that guns are so often involved. Teaching people that carrying guns is okay breeds violence, it also breeds mistrust in the fact that you need a gun to protect yourself which is the number one reason for gun possession.

The police in the US have a very difficult job, they have to avoid using violence when they know full well that in many cases the guys they are persecuting will likely be armed and willing to fire. Of course though, the guy that killed Floyd was completely wrong and should be jailed, there is no defending that. The circumstances these guys work in though is just incredibly difficult.

Let's put it another way - 2 police officers have been shot and killed in these protests and no-one even cares, that is how difficult their job is.

Take the guns away and you no longer have the spark that is driving this entire thing.

Entirely agree.

Law enforcement as it is known and wants to be known in America rather than a police service sees itself as some form of paramilitary organisation and dresses and arms itself accordingly.

No chance of things changing until attitudes like this change.

A police officer if first and foremost a PUBLIC servant. Protect and Serve refers to the citizens they serve.

Unfortunately too many officers think protect and serve means them, and whilst I agree that they should feel safe in their jobs they are given the tools and training to enable them to protect themselves in most situations.

loads of photos and videos of fully armed rednecks coming to protests or "protecting" their backyards. It's a matter of time a bloodbath will happen.

In one video, some **** came to the Chicago protest armed with machine gun despite open carry being illegal in Illinois. Police just politely speaks with him and he freely walks away. If that was a black man, he'd at least had 10 guns pointed at him.

Sadly I think this is a likely outcome. It only takes one idiot to start shooting.

Posted this after you quoted me:

- It's pathetic that some people still pretends there are no two laws. One for white Americans and one for the rest.

I see different interpretations of the same laws no doubt but not different.

For different laws how about one for citizens and on for the police?

It's always worth remembering that absolutely everything you've seen over the past week has escalated from a single allegation that a man tried to pay with a fake $20. The police through their deliberate policy of escalating violence have gone from arresting someone for using a fake $20, to shooting unarmed people in the streets en masse.
