George Floyd murder / Derek Chauvin guilty of murder

The reality of policing in the US

That haunting scream is why a Jacob Blake doesn't get to do whatever it is he was doing leaning/getting into the car, and it's why Police need more funding, not less. For one thing they should all be given Martial Arts training so that they're more equipped to deal with someone physically when the taser and spray fail (which they do far too often) and scum like the little prick in the video can't wriggle his way to a weapon

The video should also highlight how US police can't really afford to think "he's not being aggressive, if anything he comes across as a bit of a crybaby" - anyone can turn into a coldblooded killer in a heartbeat

@Bigga @SWP's back It's been a few days now, and yet no comments from either of you. Why?

I thought maybe y'all missed it. But I see Bigga you've like a post responding to it that focused on the proliferation of guns.

So clearly, Bigga you've seen this. SWP just in case you didn't I'm reposting.

Both of your astute commentary will be greatly appreciated. What should cops do when suspects don't comply?

For a start the reply was plenty and why it was 'liked'.

You should do well to read.

And lastly, it was handled poorly. Add that to the reply and you get your answer.

*Last note: if everyone has the right to the same type of weapon, there are going to be people that will use it, such is your dumb law.

Again with the non-answers. How was it handled poorly? What did they do that they shouldn't have? Where did they get it wrong?

Should they have believed the guy when he was complaining about how he had done nothing wrong? I know you are big on believing the suspect.

So please tell us what they did wrong. When should the cops have pulled their gun? At what point of non-compliance was it warranted?

And to the underlined yes Bigga we know. That's why those of us who live in reality keep telling you fantasy island people that 'compliance' is the only antidote that saveguards the lives of all involved. The suspects and the cops! Get it now?

It's basic Common Sense!

Personally I wouldn't want to be a copper or a black man in America. I would have had my gun out the first time he refused to comply. Would that have changed things I don't know.

The guy in the car and the copper who killed George Floyd have one thing in common they are both pieces of shit.

That's truly haunting and really highlights the dangers of Policing. He appeared not to be a threat, you can't take any chances. He had no reason not to comply.

Many here would think you are wrong and unnecessarily escalating" the situation for doing that. And anytime they see a cop with his gun drawn they immediately reach that conclusion.

For those who have worked on police review boards or work closely with precincts on community issues, you know better. The life and job of a copper is nothing like that of an average citizen.

There is a New York video compilation of bodycam ambush of police officers that is used as training to let officers know you should always be alert.

The situations are as wide and varied as anything. From attempting to arrest a gangbanger which most cops are generally on high alert for, to Domesticat abuse calls, to a welfare check in, traffic stops, and aiding a man who passed out then later attempts to kill the cops who revived him. The situations often look so benign in the beginning don't they often dont see their shooter or, sometimes when they are unlucky, killer coming. :(

I mean, imagine getting killed on a welfare check-up. I.e a family member calls 911 ( often an elderly family member who can't go check themselves) to check on another family member to see if they are alright. coz they hadn't heard from said person in a while. Cop goes to do a check. Finds the guy, let's him know they would send a report to his great aunt he is okay. Cop ask if he needs anything else. He says not really, but hold on. Cop turns away half leaving, then he here's the door, turns back to see what the guy needs, bam bam.. he is down and and dead. That is one of many such stories

Anyone who has watched those training on alertness videos simply can't regurgitate some of the nonsense that passes for acceptable retort here. :(

If the last "such story" is true, I'm not sure how being "alert" helps, unless a cop thinks every single citizen he or she meets is expected to pull a gun. You'd have to have your gun ready to fire if someone asked the way to the police station. Just get rid of all the guns.

Don't disagree on that. But in the interim, officers often have to follow lots of strange procedures that seem counter intuitive to the average individual.

There are some officer deaths that can't be prevented. Like the guy ( looked like a guy) who walked up on 2 cops pulled a gun and start firing.

There simply is no preparation for that. The one thing that might reduce that, is the false narrative that the police are out in America killing black people indiscriminately. As that's what's been claimed. Neither the facts nor truth bare out these general claims.

Have the Police killed a black person before? Yes. And in some if those instances were they wrong? Yes. But is there unique difference in police killing of black people vis a vis the rest of the population? No. The facts just don't support those claims.

Demonizing the police, serves the interest of no one. Not the Police's. Not Black people's. Well it certainly serves the interest of criminals. As now they can terrorize their communities with impunity. :(

I should check your facts on that.

The problem with this thread, like many others, is that certain posters have now picked a side and their agenda is set. What started off as a pretty straight forward case of a murdered black man is now something completely different.

The comments section on you tube of the video posted is a good indicator of what a fucking hopeless task this all is. Some people celebrating it others using it as an excuse for cops to shoot people.

Every incident in the states involving the police and the public is not getting judged or debated on the merits of the incident itself but people are trying to find anything they can to justify their own view because they have invested so much into it. I agree that the lack of comments and empathy following those police being shot is both depressing and sad. It works both ways though.

The only thing I am sure of is there will be more deaths and people will take from it what benefits their views.
