My mum had died the day before and i was alone in the living room at midnight feeling depressed and watching tv ..... beside me , on the floor was a childs rubber rolling toy , full of small balls , it had lain still all day.

I suddenly felt the urge for a sandwich and went into the kitchen to make one .....

as i buttered the bread i suddenly became aware of that rubber rolling toy being shaken , or rolled .... and the balls inside it making quite a noise.

i was wide awake , felt an ice cold chill pass right through me , and dashed back into the living room to find the rubber rolling toy in exactly the same place ..... it hadn't moved.

But somebody , or something , DID move it ..... and they waited until i'd gone into the kitchen to do so too ...... probably on purpose , so as not to startle me even more than they did !

Now i don't believe in Ghosts , God or anything ...... but that definetely happened , i swear ..... after the incident i was unerved a bit , fucked off straight to bed , and told the the missus .... she then told me that five minutes before she'd been suddenly awakened by freezing cold air suddenly passing over her!

Interesting. There's a theory that all so called poltergeist phenomena are actually expressions of a disturbed psyche, often an adolescent. There are a lot of anecdotal reports of odd happenings during stressful times, such as after a beareavement. RSPK - Recurring Spontaneous Psychokinesis is the suggested mechanism.

Exactly, my dog goes mental whenever I get annoying watching football on TV

If you felt a tap on your forehead it was probably water on the brain.

Sir, your coat.

How perfectly splendid - reward your tailor with some free side vents and allow him to dress on the left for a month.

I always thought that, im not so sure now.

A few times in my local late at night as we were finishing up, you could feel the presence of something. It wasnt nasty or horrible, just a feeling of somebody checking everything had been cleared up. If it was just me who felt it i would have ignored it, but it wasnt.

Mate, sleep is something I feel I'm constantly battling with, it's a fucking mare.

Thankfully the hypna-wotsit doesn't happen that often anymore (last time was on a weekend away in Cork after a seriously stupid session on the whiskey - had the hallucination of someone in the room and everything, in fact it was someone like this who I 'saw':

)

The worst thing is the more you anxious you get about the sleep situation the worse it gets. Ever decreasing circles and all that.

Yep, sleep paralysis.

Get it every few months or so.

Used to scare me to death, but I know what it's all about now. If it happens again, don't panic, think of happy things, and as strange as it sounds, try to go back to sleep.

Nothing to worry about my friend.

I learned this at a very young age. I'm old so a long time ago I learned to recognize it, without the advantage of modern tech, for what it is. I can even make myself wake up with a simple "wake up" command in my lucid dream. Or even continue dreaming if it's a good one :-)

As in you imagine telling yourself this like out of body or in some meditation style?

First time I had one was scary. I could hear people walking upstairs talking about killing me. My eyes wide open I was quite aware of my surroundings. Yet even though I could not see these ''people'' walking around my bed were very real to me.
I was then ''dragged'' by my feet out from the bottom of my bed, even though I didn't move and could clearly see I wasn't moving, the hands felt real and so did the slide down the bed.
Tried to scream at this point but my jaw was locked shut. All that came out despite my best efforts was a murmur.

Had read a while back that it's being woken in your deep sleep by something but because you are in deep sleep your body is actually paralysed. Was told your fingers and toes are the last things to go paralysed so if you try and shake them it will gradually bring you round. Sadly this hasn't worked. I eventually come round but some can last what seems like an age.

I think until u have experienced a presence u never really know what it is.....I've had that feeling someones in the room many times, and yes have had my mum briefly appear for which I know there could be many explanations, sometimes it happened when I was down....but 3 years back I had a big operation as I had cancer, my heart stopped on the table an was in theatre 6 hours....now when I was brought round in intensive care the first thing I said, all be it in a groggy state was that I had seen my mum....my mum was there....I don't remember saying it but family told me and I do remember seeing her and myself on the operating table....now that's what I call "watching over" someone and yes I do believe our loved ones do show themselves from the "afterlife" sometimes.
