Ghosts?

lad I know - mate for over ten years now, and I was his best man - perfectly sensible rational bloke, now father of 2 etc etc, ghosts and all that never ever been even a conversation weve had before :stayed in a hotel in cornwall somewhere, went to bed, took his watch off, put it on the bed side table. Woke up in the morn and it had gone. Searched high and low, tipped the bed up, the lot. No sign. So he mentions it to the receptionist in the morn. Receptionist tells him that the only reason his room is free is that the bloke whod had it 2 nights earlier had woken up in the night to see a "figure" in the room. Wouldnt even stay the rest of that night, let alone the 2nd hed booked - which is why my mate got it.
Strange, but not conclusive.
2 or 3 weeks later, he gets a call from the hotel. Theyve found his watch! Where he asks. Couple staying in the same room had woken up in the morn, to find it on the same bedside table. They were extremley spooked and wanted to know what the fuck was going on!

He got the watch sent back to him in the post.

not my story, but its the absolute truth according to someone I trust 100%. Now maybe its a hoax the hotel have pulled? But what do they gain. My mate wont stay there again. Maybe its one member of staff larking about - and maybe that was the figure that was seen? Could be. But getting in and out of guests rooms in the night cant be easy. High risk low gain. It could be that. Cos if it aint, Im fvcked if I know another sensible explanation

My turn now.

I have personally never seen a ghost and like a lot on here am sceptical. However, I can share this story:

Many years ago I lived down in Worcestershire, and knew a girl who was the landlady in a pub in Droitwich called The Westcroft Arms. This girl was a lovely lady, as down to earth as you could get (ex biker lady), and was married at the time and had a couple of young daughters. She fell preggers again. And then the weird stuff started.

Forget the doors opening and slamming shut for no reason, the footsteps upstairs when nobody was up there, and the other creepy goings on, the bit that spooked me was the dreams she had…

Early in the pregnancy, she dreamt someone was at her bedroom door. She woke up and got up to check, but no one was there. As the pregnancy developed, the dreams continued, and in the dreams, over a period of time, the door gradually opened. She used to wake up and wake her husband, but nothing was ever there. Over time, the dreams progressed, and a bit at a time, the door opened wider, a hand came through the door, followed by an arm, the then the torso of an older man. Night by night, the man slowly walked up to her side of the bed, and as the birth drew near, started to reach out his arm to touch the woman’s face…

At no time through any of this did she feel scared or threatened, just concerned about the vividness of the dreams.

She gave birth to a third healthy baby daughter just before the hand touched her face, and after the birth, never had the dream again.

She left the pub not long after that.

Spooky eh?

My Aunt used to be the landlady at the Griffin in Bowden. The least fanciful person you could ever meet, but she often used to sense the shape of a man at the top of the stairs in the living quarters above the pub. It was where the top of the stairs led into the kitchen, and was usully late at night when she was on her own. She could only explain it as being the sense of someone who was perhaps a travelling salesperson as she always felt that he was merely calling in to say Cheerio as he went elsewhere.

She once took me into the attic above her own living quarters. It had housed the rooms of the servants when it had been a coaching house many years before. There were still partitions showing each room and it was perhaps the saddest place I had ever been in. She had sensed that too and wanted me to confirm it. We beat a hasty retreat.

I would just like to add that my Aunt is probably the most practical, ruthless businesswoman I have ever known and she does not suffer fools gladly.

i once saw a show about ghosts and hauntings in england. and these guys went to all the major haunted sites across the UK, where famous ghosts have been seen, or where people regularly see them.

anyway the one common factor? all of the places where near to or on top of electrical fault lines.

they think that the image of ghosts or appiritions comes from having a part of your brain triggered by a small electrical current which manifests itself in a way that cant be explained and is put down as ghosts by people who want to see ghosts, basically they believe theyve seen something and because they want it to be a ghost, they transform it to that in their head.

mind this doestn explain how two people see the same thing and stuff.

but still an interesting idea

What's an 'electrical fault line'?

bit new age here, but i think he means ley line, which are supposedly the current channels of the earth force and you can plot them by drawing lines on a map along things like very old roads, rivers, between ancient monument sites, stuff like that- the idea being that the ancients had a finer keenness to that sort of thing and the precise placment on the landscape of stone henge, and other stone circles, etc, around the country, is more design than accident. over, and where these ley lines intersect, theyre supposed to produce 'paranormal' effects.

i confess to being fascinated by this sort of thing, i always have been. i can't say ive ever drawn any real conclusions, though.

Right, one more.
lad I know is a surveyor in and around manc.
One day he was in an old abandoned factory/office complex.
Long since deserted.
He was going around making notes, taking photos etc
Whilst looking for what he thought would be the electricity meters, he went into a room under some stairs.
With no light switch to be found, he switched his torch on and flashed it around. Rubbish strewn on the floor meant he didnt notice for a minute, but then he almost fell over a pair of human legs.
he absolutley shat himself and ran out, down the corridor and out into the deserted car park.

after a couple of minutes he composed himself and convinced himself to grow up
So he went back in and marched back - determined to at least verify it was a body, in which case hed call the police.
So back in he went, and shone his torch on the lifeless form.
Thinking hed done enough he was about to pull his mobile out when he noticed a large medal hanging around the neck of the deceased.
Thinking it would assist with identification he made himself lean over and grab it. Turning it around into his torch light he could see it was inscribed.
You will never guess what it said...

I've never seen anything personally. But I'm open minded towards it.

I will apologise in advance to anyone who might find the following distressing but I think it's appropriate to mention it on this thread.

I remember Scarblu putting a couple of posts on here and if I recall correctly one was titled Am I going mad? or similar. He stated that something very strange had happened in his house whilst he was alone but didn't go into too much detail. The following day he relayed a similar experience. As anyone who remembers his posts and those that met him will verify, Scarblu was a very funny character on here but in this instance he was absolutely serious.

He died suddenly and unexpectedly the day after. It just seemed very strange at the time. And it was mentioned on here briefly but I think many people were too shocked to discuss it at the time.

I remember that as well.I hadn't long been a member of the board and what he said regarding his little girl was genuinely chilling!
