I laugh when people talk about a replacement for Kev. There is no such thing, Kev was unique. You have to remodel your attack to make up for his absence.
Is Wirtz/Cherki a Kev replacement? No, they are different players.

Exactly. I was gonna actually make the point about kev in my post

Unless you somehow find the best passer of the next generation and next best in terms of assists in the history of the premier league, then there's no replacement. You have to change your approach

I think it's the same with Ederson, there's no like for like when it comes to keepers and their feet. Look at the rags keeper who was billed as being good with his feet. He probably is ok with his feet compared to your average big lummox of the past in goal but he's so far off Ederson too. That'll be the reality if we get a goalie who is "good with his feet" - it'll be someone who isn't as clumsy as the blokes from two decades ago but its not gonna be an Ederson.

So with that in mind, wouldn't you just get the best shot stopper you could and then work around the feet thing?

Probably….. no , certainly.
Sometime, somewhere there will be a new guy who is genuinely great with his feet but it might be twenty years hence. Until then, go with the shot stopper or the one on one winner.

Unbelievable shot stopper but can't play with his feet which unless Pep changes his enture philosophy makes links like this fanciful.

I do quite like my keepers making saves personally though, I feel like too many shots flew past our two far too easily last season.
Always feels like the oppositions first chance ends with a goal which is biggest downside to the way we play and batter teams for 20/30/40 mins wasting a shitload of chances and we all know its coming.

Not for me and cant see it. Looks so awkward with his feet would kill our whole way of playing. I think PSG will be a better team without him and instead a proper ball playing keeper.

A clear "give me more money" story as youll ever see. He had a very good champions league campaign but he's still all hype. He makes a lot of errors and he's terrible on the ball. Cannot imagine a world where Pep is interested in him.
funny enough... Tixi said after treble winning campaign that the first team players were asking for a pay rise and the back up were trying to leave...

Tbh, I feel like this has been the case all the time we’ve had Ederson. Don’t get me wrong, he is absolutely the perfect Pep keeper when the rest of the team is firing and he has little to do and he was a huge part of our success especially in the early years with his ability on the ball. He also won us the champions league in the final vs inter.

However, although he doesn’t often make obvious howlers he’s always had mad rushes of blood to the head giving away penalties when he had no business coming off his line and also countless goals where he’s stood in absolutely no man’s land showing the striker virtually the whole goal. Also falls to the ground often quite slowly, particularly on penalties.

Agree with you on his philosophy Pep won’t compromise, if Ederson leaves the next keeper will have to have a decent level of ability with their feet and be able to play sweeper keeper. Best in class shot stopper / goalkeeping ability on its own won’t convince him.

The thing is, no matter which keeper you get, they're not gonna be as good as Ederson with their feet, you simply can't replace it like for like, so then do you opt for an excellent shot stopper like this guy or someone who may be lesser shot stopper than this fella and but decent with his feet but still no Ederson? If it's the latter then we may as well just use Ortega

Yeah but it's a fairly big drop off in this case. Obviously no keeper we bring in will be what Eddie is, but we also do need to bring in someone with a semblance of it.

Signing Donnarumma would be fantastic if Eddie goes. I just can’t see it though unfortunately, we don’t seem to be interested in these kind of signings sadly.

Would be a Rags type of signing, where you just go all out for a big name with absolutely no strategy behind it, and no clarity on how you intend to structure your team and playing style.

Just names to excite sponsors and generate engagement in the media and on socials.

Donnarumma is so completely different to Ederson that we’d have to totally change our style of play to accommodate him - no more playing out from the back, and a completely different approach to our defensive line, which are cornerstones to the entire City style.

He’s a great keeper, no doubt - but he’s the antithesis of a City keeper, and I don’t believe our board are stupid enough to go all in for a big name just because, when it’s pretty clear he wouldn’t work in our team.
