Agreed, but it's not like this was the plan all along. One of the world's best keepers being available at a discounted price isn't a situation anyone saw coming. Feel bad for Trafford, but the only question is "does this signing improve us and mean we are more likely to win now?" and I can't help feel but the answer is yes

Trafford has a lot of potential, Donnarumma is already one of the world's best. Only question marks is how his lack of distribution and on the ball quality affects our tactics

Definitely. You cant anticipate options like this becoming available. Ultimately the goal is to put out the best team possible. If this is genuinely an option, City have to make the move.

And he's only 26, it's not like he can't develop in any area. How often are you getting a goalkeeper who is 26 years old with already 10 years of top flight starting experience?

For Trafford, he would have had a genuine shot at being in the England squad of he was getting regular minutes at a top side. Now that may not be the case. IMO donarumma is the best shot stopper in the world and would improve any team so it's unlikely that Trafford will the get the minutes required. Realistically both ederson and Ortega would have to go for this to work
Well up until a few days ago it looked like Ortega was the one leaving. If Eddie goes to Turkey and we get Donarumma Ortega still departs. What this means for Traffords development pathway I don't know. I would not see any realistic chance of him claiming the No 1 shirt in the short to medium term. I doubt very much he will be happy with this. If these moves transpire the seaon gets even more interesting.

Tough on Trafford, but when a world class keeper suddenly becomes available and is open to move here then we have to do it. The lad has a huge presence, massive confidence and pulled off no end of world class saves for PSG last season.
As for Trafford it would be up to him to rise to the challenge. He'll get his chance in cup games to do so.

There is no bid for Ederson. It remains at this moment a hypothetical what if scenario.

Furthermore, by June, another keeper will have come in anyway so likely Trafford will be no. 2 as I don't see a 22 year old being the no.1. It happened with Donnarumma at AC Milan but he was a one off.

Superb keeper, bizarre target for us though. Personally can't see it happening. What happens to Trafford then?

I'm also not a fan of the way he exited his clubs - Milan and now, PSG.

Why spend all that money on Trafford if we are now looking at Donnarumma?
I thought Trafford cost us £27mil. We sold him for something like £14mil a few years back so we spent about £13mil on his experience at Burnley to develop and he also doesnt count towards a foreign spot in the squad.

Tell me, how did PSG play last season with a guy with apparently zero ability to kick a ball in net?

Okay, one last time because I've outlined this plenty of times but none of you want to hear it.

PSG are far better at winning second balls than us. They have a better, more youthful and energetic midfield, their front line press is incredible and their full backs are proficient in possession as well as (shock horror) being capable defensively.

They are in so much of a better position than us to play with a keeper who is shite in possession. They also vary their play more than us and are more than comfortable to let the opposition have the ball. This is why they have their signature rugby-style kickoff.

We are not them and they are not us.

Them winning the Champions League is not proof of Donnarumma's ability with the ball at his feet.

You can debate the importance of that attribute but the bottom line is that it has been a fundamental part of us going on the best run in Premier League run in history, as well as winning the treble.

On top of that, PSG have just looked for and found a keeper who is drastically better in that regard. I'd suggest that if it wasn't important then they'd have paid Donnarumma what he's asking for and kept him.

Never before have I seen a transfer thread that’s had so many losing their minds about the effect it will have on another player, despite nobody knowing anything!
