Gianluigi Donnarumma | Done deal according to Romano

Can’t get excited about this deal personally.

Feels like a bit of a United-esque signing and not in a good way.

A big name who’s available, rather than a player who we need or suits or style of play. On presumably crazy wages and impossible to shift if he doesn’t perform or causes issues.

If it goes through I’ll support him as any other city player and hope to be proven wrong.
People on here, fucking embarassing, he's one of the best if not the best keeper in the world & people are moaning and suddenly are all goalkeeping experts ???

This is exactly like the time when we almost signed cristiano ronaldo and the general consensus was that anyone not wanting "the greatest goalscorer of all time" was off their heads.

On a fucking Manchester City forum, no less.

Context matters. He is a very questionable fit for our team and that makes him an expensive risk.

Lower case, the bitterness has to be applauded. Chapeau.

Except Donnarumma is 26 and Ronaldo was about 40. Risk is signing players like Echeverri and Reis. Signing a top quality player proven player minimises risk.

Different stages in their respective careers.

Mate that is shocking ? Trafford is better than that and you know it
Is he? He has to be consistent. How did you feel after the Spurs game? I was absolutely gutted and the thought that Trafford was going to be our no. 1 and that Ederson was on his way was very concerning.

In my opinion strong GK makes your team strong and confident.
Welcome Gigi!
Yes this is my opinion too. The goalkeeping position is absolutely critical to any side. You need a top class keeper to win trophies. Arsenal and Liverpool have one. City had one but Ederson was cracking. Man Utd don't have one and that is undermining them. I am expecting Donnarumma to have a huge impact at City.

Matey one game and a mistake ? You have to learn from a mistake and he did with a great save yesterday
The Spurs game was down to the attackers not doing their job including Haaland

According to some people, Donnarumma is brilliant with his hands but his feet are size 16 blocks of concrete. And yet he is the pin-up star of European goalkeeping.

Fucking hell we've been 'Closing in' on this deal forever. If he'd agreed terms weeks ago what is taking the announcement so long?
As for not being a Pep keeper who out there is aside from Ederson?

Had there been zero links to us and he had just signed for United, how many posts do you think there would be about them signing a guy on reputation alone again?

I believe he is.
I don’t tend to scrutinise opposition players the way I do our own, but I’ve never watched him and thought that he was absolutely horrendous on the ball. Certainly, he’s no Eddie but I think we are aligned on the fact that whoever we get in, they will be a step or two down on that front. I have watched Donnarumma and thought he was an unbelievable shot-stopper. That’s what has certainly stood out for me, over anything else.

Having watched Trafford, I don’t believe he is anything remotely special on the ball, I think keepers of his standard (with his feet) are ten-a-penny and I am expecting Donnarumma to be of a similar standard. What I am expecting from Donnarumma over Trafford is improved shot-stopping and leadership. This team currently looks rudderless, we used to have half a dozen captains out on the pitch and I’m expecting Donnarumma to step up in a way that Trafford can’t at the moment.

I don’t for one minute think this signing solves our problems but I do think it’s a step in the right direction.

No I don’t. I haven’t been watching him every week to have any clue. A couple of season playing at a lower level at Bolton and a couple of seasons at Burnley isn’t going to give me any clue as to how good he really is.
