I’ve often thought that kinkladze played in the wrong era. Most sides in the 90s played a rigid 442 formation. Kinkladze was neither a winger or a forward in the traditional sense. I think in a 433 formation he could have played in the David silva/Bernardo/gundogan role.

great player and will always be remembered as a standout star at city in the 90s but was still part of a side that was relegated twice. Didn’t really pull up any trees at Ajax and did nothing of note at Derby.

for his technique and skill he should have had more to show for it. Natural ability was off the scale but sometimes you need the other dirty aspects in football for it all to come together.

Don’t think you can judge Kinky on stats alone, he was a beacon of hope in dark times who was quite often kicked out of games. An exotic name with a silky touch & outrageous skill, that shower had Cuntona we had Kinklad7e. You can’t blame the player for all the hype & hope placed on his shoulders, which possibly outstripped his ability given how much we wanted him to be a world beater. He gave us hope before every game….not so much after!

Magnificent docu, just magnificent. That free kick against Swindon was reminiscent of the one Tevez scored, nigh on the same trajectory, and one that David Silva scored in his last season - going three yards wide, round the outside edge of the wall, and curled in.

I met Gio in town once and it's the only time I've approached anyone for a selfie...I'm way too old for that stuff. He appeared almost embarrassed that I'd asked but he was very nice., plus I got to shake his hand.

That goal will live forever as one of the finest ever at Maine Road and I was in the South Stand watching it happen.

An outstanding fans player. One that everybody has great memories of great moments in dark days. Much better thought of by fans than professionals in the game.

On days when he didn't look interested seemed like city were playing with ten men but on days when he was on it an absolute joy to watch.

Yeah, they did. He was given total freedom at City and did some amazing jinky runs. He occasionally made or scored a goal too.

He did stand out for us. In a shit team. With shit managers.

Ajax signing him is irrelevant to how good he was.

I always say he was in a very unprofessional environment back then. City squad was full of boozers. He did little at Ajax and was massively out of shape by the time he got to Derby. Who knows how he would have got on in the modern era, could have made him or broke him.
