Glass ceiling cracking?

No.

All the top clubs are misfiring for various reasons. As soon as that stops it's business as usual. The best the clubs you mentioned can manage is a Europa league spot that will fuck them over for the next season.

Until they can invest more, nothing will change. I hope that happens soon.

In the short term - perhaps only this season, there is a real opportunity for a few surprises in the league.

There are at least 2 (potentially 4) extra European games so Arsenal, Liverpool, Villa, Spurs and the Rags along with us will already be stretched. We've been hit hard by injuries already which makes it a challenge to rest and rotate players. The majority are going strong in the league and CL and four of those sides are also still in the league cup. Chelsea I've left out as they're playing a B team in the Conference League most weeks which is helping them compete on both fronts.

If you're a side like Forest or Brighton and only have to deal with the league you have an advantage, particularly in the second half of the season where fatigue will potential bite quite hard.

I think you'll still have the same issue where players will end up leaving if they've had a good season so I don't think it's a long term threat. But Villa have emerged and Newcastle remain a potential challenger up the table, so I might be wrong.

I reckon we'll see English teams take a different strategy in Europe next season and possibly rotate a lot more even at the risk it means a playoff and two more games. Those games fall in a tough time of year, but if you can rest the majority of your best 11 in the CL you'll probably be in a better state playing the playoff than if you go all out in the league phase. I would anticipate Pep's approach will be like it was in the group where we try to ensure we're in the top 8 as early as possible and then rest...but we'll have to see how things play out.

This was Southampton a few years ago and all the best players got cherry picked by the big boys and eventually they got relegated

In the last decade alone Southampton have been rinsed by liverpool by having their arm twisted for these players.

Virgil van Dijk, Sadio Mane, Dejan Lovren, Adam Lallana, Nathaniel Clyne and Rickie Lambert.

The rags took fatty Shaw from them which weakened the Saints unbelievably.

How the fuck do Spuds generate £549 million income? Surely an investigation into dodgy dealings is needed?

Even in the late 90s and early 2000s Tottenham were hovering around 14th richest in the world, and consistently been top 16 richest for 30 years. With no silverware to back that up or consistent champions league football.

Now it's full on business. Hosting concerts, NFL games, Boxing, sky walk tours, go karting tracks, breweries inside. It's all quite ridiculous. This is the epitome of modern day football.

Football and football fans in particular seem to be an afterthought in the grand scheme of things now.

They have sold their souls and arseholes to the £$€ to pay for the stadium and for Lewis and Levi's dividends.

Not ridiculous when the place has to be paid for and dividends paid.

What would you do ?

City have been early adopters of monetising everything with a pulse.

Market economy !!
