Glastonbury 2023

Not sure I’d agree, any band with an extensive back catalogue who chose to play them one after another a la Reg last night and songs that the crowd can sing along are on a sure fire winner.

I saw New Order headline the Other Stage in 2016 and they for some reason chose to start the first 30 mins playing tracks from a new album, they lost the crowd completely.
I was at that New Order gig, the sticky mud and light drizzle did not help it.

I have seen Depeche about 30 times over the years. Already seen them in Amsterdam and at Twickenham on this tour. I am off to Berlin to see them next week. Depeche would not just play the hits. Yes you would get the predictable handful, but the set would be new album and post violator heavy. There would be next to nothing from the early to mid 80's, when they were racking up top 10 hits. I have seen Depeche at a few festivals, where it is not their own crowd and they have fallen flat every time.

I was at Glastonbury this weekend and Elton was able to pull it off because he has a set full of up beat, family friendly, classics, which everyone and his grandmother knows. Depeche Mode have I just Can't Get Enough.

Depeche Mode are a fucking fantastic band. One of the most original and innovative bands the world has seen. Unfortunately they have had their opportunities to headline Glasto and they refused. After seeing how Glastonbury has changed over the years, I have serious reservations regarding how an aged Depeche would go down on the Pyramid Stage. They would be an utterly fantastic Other Stage headliner, but they are far too big for that.
