Glastonbury 2023

Simple Minds on the pyramid next year please, will probably be their last ever show as well, as they are not touring the latest album. They did rescheduled shows from Covid, so they did gigs the same year the album came out, but they haven't toured since the album came out which is unlike them.

It's giving me impressions they are planning to quit, but at the same time, I hope they do what Elton did and use Glasto to say goodbye.

From what I saw I enjoyed Elton John , cat Steven’s , rick astley , foo fighters , and generation sex with Billy idol .
I thought arctic monkeys were shit and so we’re guns and roses . Next year .

I was at that New Order gig, the sticky mud and light drizzle did not help it.

I have seen Depeche about 30 times over the years. Already seen them in Amsterdam and at Twickenham on this tour. I am off to Berlin to see them next week. Depeche would not just play the hits. Yes you would get the predictable handful, but the set would be new album and post violator heavy. There would be next to nothing from the early to mid 80's, when they were racking up top 10 hits. I have seen Depeche at a few festivals, where it is not their own crowd and they have fallen flat every time.

I was at Glastonbury this weekend and Elton was able to pull it off because he has a set full of up beat, family friendly, classics, which everyone and his grandmother knows. Depeche Mode have I just Can't Get Enough.

Depeche Mode are a fucking fantastic band. One of the most original and innovative bands the world has seen. Unfortunately they have had their opportunities to headline Glasto and they refused. After seeing how Glastonbury has changed over the years, I have serious reservations regarding how an aged Depeche would go down on the Pyramid Stage. They would be an utterly fantastic Other Stage headliner, but they are far too big for that.
Part of me thinks that it would be like Reg, a hit laden goodbye to touring set next summer. They were pretty downbeat this time around about going on tour/ new album/ etc etc so maybe that could be an option.

Plenty enough in their back catalogue to chuck in I Feel You, Precious, Ghosts again, Wrong, A Pain (Le Cont version) without any later extras and just do Violator and backwards. Would go down a storm, especially with the remixed versions.

Still, it's a fantasy booking for me. 100+ gigs over the years and not really one I've not liked. Even dragged a few friends to Birmingham etc and now they ask when can we see them next. Antwerp this year was special to me, well enough to go and have a couple of beers and take it all in. Surrounded by mates. great weekend.

I'd take Simple Minds as long as they don't play anything after Sparkle In The Rain and got Derek Forbes back on bass. There will definitely be a female artist and a hip hopper headlining next year. There was a lack of diversity in headliners this year. I reckon Blur will headline again with a new album out in a couple of months

Wouldn't sell out Bo'ness gala day.
