Goalkeeper situation summer 25

Let’s have it right. Neither of the keepers are good enough IMO. Both have glaring flaws (Ortega kicking, Eddie shot stopping).

Ederson’s kicking is no longer an anomaly in football, near enough every keeper in the league has the calmness to play out from the back. When he came in 2017, football was full of old-style keepers (Hart, Buffon, Cech to name a few easy ones) but not anymore. He has an accurate long pass but is that enough to warrant keeping him? Not for me. His shot stopping is too poor. The Forest goal last week was criminally poor and not that much was made of it because, dare I say, it’s the norm for him. He had a good run in the treble season but so did a lot of other players who get a lot less protection from fans (Grealish, Akanji) for the same argument.

Ortega was rightly(!) getting praise at the back end of last season and the clamour for him to be the starting keeper was very justified. Especially after the Son save. So it’s a bit ‘reactionary’ to now claim it was over the top. But he’s seemingly gone a bit backwards this season and hasn’t been as reliable. But…who hasn’t?

Either way. I’d be looking at a new keeper.
 
Maignan is my first choice but the Portugese fella we're linked with is a very very good goalie aswell. Wouldn't mind either. Maignan better with his feet Costa better at keeping it out the net!
 
The answer might not be one of the obvious ones. Especially donnarumma who is shit with the ball on his feet and can’t catch any shots . He always punches them.
Costa is a shitty shot stopper.
Still feel City has to go with someone who is not THAT KNOWN.

Agree...especially with now Viana calling the shots I think we'll go for someone not on the 'list'

I don't think anyone named correctly ahead of time the defensive players we eventually acquired in Jan.

I would also be wary of Chelsea competing with us this summer in the GK market, as they definitely need a starter & arn't afraid of spending & getting their targets.
 
id be floored if we go for someone inexperienced. If Ederson leaves, we likely see Ortega take the gloves and we have a youngster as cup rotation.

People might not like it but we know what Pep is like with his loyalty and Ortega has given him plenty since he arrived so now time for some payback.

Think it's extemely unlikely Ortega becomes number 1, he's a good number 2 but nowhere near what we need from our number 1.

Well I dont see Pep giving the gloves to a a youngster like Chevalier and if he does then Ortega goes, which leaves us with another spot to fill. A tricky situation for sure.

I've not the faintest idea which keepers are out there but whoever we bring in will need to be much closer to Ederson with footwork the Ortega. If Ederson is a 10 I'd put Ortega at maybe 6 or 7. We might not get a 10 but will be looking for as close as we can.

I think we are all in for a bit of a shock with the next keeper because of the ridiculous standard Ederson has set with his ability on the ball.

Ortega nowhere near good enough , people go on about the save from Son but what about the week after in the FA Cup Final and more recent showings at Arsenal and Brighton last week - bang average
 
If Ederson goes then we need two keepers imo as Ortega isnt good enough to be our number one but will want to leave if he isnt.
 
After some research, i think we missed out on my #1 choice
1. Marmardashvili. Signed by Liverpool in the winter :(

2. Bart Verbruggen - Will be super expensive. But the player is be most interested in from Brighton

3. Illan Meslier Leeds: He is probably now my #1 choice.

4. Alex Remiro Real Sociedad.

5. Chevalier who might be going to PSG.


Any of the above works for me.
