Goalkeeper situation summer 25

Angus Gunn released by Norwich.
Would he do ( and be happy enough to do ) as back up keeper?

He's 29 and realistically for a keeper I'd say that's coming into their prime. Not sure he'd want to sit on our bench as a 3rd keeper for the rest of his career.

I’m sure he would come as a second choice, not third though. I don’t think Gunn is good enough, especially with his feet, to be playing all of our cup games though.

If we have a decent buyback on Trafford, we’d be crazy not to take him back and bring in Costa as #1. Trafford would get plenty of games and develop, and if the right money came along, we could move him on again once an Academy keeper is ready.

Be nice to see one of the dozen or so Academy keepers make it here one day!!

Both Champions League finalists are there largely because of how their respective goalkeepers performed. Guardiola has had such an effect on football that most goalkeepers now are generally competent with their feet, but to win the big pot, you really need an exceptional shot stopper; the way football is evolving means teams appear to be creating even more chances as well, so that need is not diminishing.

it has always been that way.

Reflecting on the time when Guardiola arrived, I'm not really sure it has.
Passing is a great asset ,but a lot of young goalkeepers coming through nowdays are pretty good at it ,much better than goalkeepers used to be. Think it won´t be a problem ,if the new goalkeeper isnt on Edersons lvl at this.

Nobody is Ederson level, but Pep will want as close as he can possibly get to that level.

Surely PSG aren't going to sign a new keeper after how donarumma has performed.
That opens the door to chavallier
