Goalkeeper situation summer 25

Is Marc-André ter Stegen no longer wanted at FC Barcelona? The Spanish media are talking about a “bombshell” - a successor is said to have already been chosen.

Astonishing news about the German number one: Marc-André ter Stegen is apparently now a candidate for sale at FC Barcelona!

Club president Joan Laporta is said to have cleared the 33-year-old for sale at a board meeting. A corresponding report by the Catalan radio station RAC-1 has now been confirmed by the sports newspaper As, which spoke of a “bombshell”.

According to the report, Laporta is expecting to sign Joan García, who currently plays for LaLiga rivals Espanyol. According to Mundo Deportivo, he is available for a fixed transfer fee of 25 million euros. Transfer rumors have been circulating for days.

Barca probably planning with García
If García, who is probably also being courted by Manchester City, agrees as planned, they would “get rid of” ter Stegen, according to the As.

For a decade, the former Bundesliga star from Borussia Mönchengladbach, who recently returned from a serious injury, was untouchable. This is no longer the case, he is no longer seen as essential. Also because his level is no longer the same after three knee operations.

Wojciech Szczesny, meanwhile, is set to become the backup keeper behind the hoped-for new number one García. Barca coach Hansi Flick had opted for the Pole in the decisive games of the season finale in Spain, although ter Stegen was already available again.

Now, according to the explosive As report, the coaching team - Flick's name is not explicitly mentioned in this context - no longer believes in the German.

Ter Stegen has been the official number one goalkeeper for the German national team since the departure of Manuel Neuer. National coach Julian Nagelsmann had also committed to the long-time backup in the run-up to the Nations League final four. His big goal is the 2026 World Cup.

Ter Stegen is not good enough. There's a reason Barca fans don't like him, and even half the team doesn't rate him.

Would be good news. Eddie’s improved massively in the past couple of seasons from a saving perspective. Would love to keep him.

Same, but it is a peculiar change of mind from apparently having a foot out the door 9-12 months ago to "se queda".

Needs to get better with shot stopping but still a good keeoer .
Did you watch the last games of the season, without him we don't get top 5.

As for Pep's quotes, not massively surprised. I expected Ederson to stay after the Martinez to Saudi news broke and I am definitely happier for it.

We have enough spots to fill without worrying about keepers. I am surprised Ortega hasn't had any other offers or perhaps he likes the setup at City and we should be thankful for it, excellent backup keeper and more than capable for cup games or standing in for Ederson if required.

I watched a few with him aswell and he was flaky although he seemed to get his confidence back end of the season . Look end of the day he’s made some great saves but he’s also made mistakes aswell but your right he hat other positions are more important.

He was great in a few games at the end of the season, but this also highlights just how poor he has been on occasions earlier in the season. If he played like the last few games consistently all season, then we definitely would be desperate to keep him.

If ortega leaves, I'd take Kepa as number 2 if he was willing to not be number 1
